When your boss invites you to lunch
“You’re wishin’ too much, baby. You gotta stop wearing your wishbone where your backbone oughtta be.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
Consider carefully what is before you;
2 And put a knife to your throat
If you are a man given to appetite.
3 Do not desire his delicacies,
For they are deceptive food.
Proverbs 23:1-3

It must be remembered that rulers rule and that includes ruling you if you are not careful.
So anytime a ruler – let’s call them a boss, or a manager, or a leader of any strip – invites you to join them for an event (say lunch), assume that they have an agenda.
It may be a beneficial agenda, one that helps advance your career, add to your well-being, and even make you happy.
But like your banker, lawyer, and doctor, your boss may be friendly but that doesn’t mean your boss is your friend.
But don’t be blind and naïve.
“Free” always comes with a price, unless you’re free.
And one of the easiest and most damaging ways to lose your freedom is to be ruled by your own appetites. Crafty ruler will see this and use it to their advantage.
The sum of the matter is this: Both rulers and appetites are natural and a necessary part of life.
Choose your rulers wisely and definitely don’t let your appetites be one of them.
The ONE THING for today: When you eat lunch with your boss, always pay.
