You won’t know until you get there

So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. _I Kings 17:10 (NKJV)

There’s a reason that the expression “walking by faith” is a reoccurring way to describe living out the Christian faith.  God has a reputation for being excruciatingly miserly with giving out information!

The Apostle Paul captures the expression succinctly: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

I’ll say!

With all due respect to our Father GOD, He has a habit of rationing out information like the government does with basics supplies during war time.

God had instructed Elijah to go to a foreign city and had assured him that there would be a widow there who would provide room and board.  This was well before Mark Zuckerberg and his clever little invention called Facebook and before eHarmony and Match (online dating sites for those of you who’ve been out of the market for awhile…things have changed…a lot!), so Elijah couldn’t do a profile search for “Windows in Zarephath”.  His only option was – trigger alert – to walk by faith.

All this to say, God is not a weatherman.  He seldom makes projections about what the future will look like, but He does make promises.  Our part is to trust and obey and get up and go another day.

There’s just some things we won’t know until we get there.

But I will say, our hold-His-cards-close-to-the-His-vest Abba Father, has an incredibly solid track record of keeping His word.  As the old hymn goes:

Standing on the promises that cannot fail.

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

The ONE THING for today: Some things you won’t know until you get there.  Keep walking, friend.
