2 Cor. 11:13-15
13 They are false apostles, lying workers. They only pretend to be apostles of Christ.
14 That does not surprise us, because even Satan changes himself to look like an angel of light.
15 So it does not surprise us if Satan’s servants make themselves look like servants who work for what is right. But in the end those people will get the punishment they deserve.
Unfortunately even God’s enemy quotes scripture. One of the first things I learned in law school is that a document’s proper interpretation will not put provisions in conflict with each other. All provisions will be completely consistent with a proper interpretation.
We don’t see that kind of consistency with some popular biblical doctrines.
Many people take an ambiguous verse and interpret it in a way that’s contradictory to a verse that’s unambiguous, then simply disregard that unambiguous verse (or absolutely botch it).
They do that because they first came to a belief about the ambiguous verse, then we unable to adjust that interpretation when being forced to deal with the unambiguous verse.
So… how can we know our bible unless we know our God? The scriptures testify of Him… not themselves. IOW, scripture doesn’t testify of scripture… and contrary to the false knowledge of our hierarchies, neither does scripture interpret itself! It’s a BOOK for heaven’s sake! There is no breath in it at all! GO TO HIM of whom the scriptures testify… quickly! Anyone who hears His voice begins verifying that voice by the scriptures… no more “interpreting” required! There are those who hear and are doers… then there are those who hear and are interpreters. Where is there in all of scripture a command to figure things out by our own understanding? Did Yeshua really pray this: “…this is eternal life: that they may know the scriptures; the only true God…”? Hmmm…
