Each year, the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center provides an inspirational lecture to the public about our Pentecostal heritage. Our emphasis this year is on our heritage of music.
Donald LeRoy, DMA, will present “Shaping a Musical Legacy: 75 Years of the Red Back Hymnal.” He is campus pastor of Pathway Church of God in Southaven, Mississippi, an ordained bishop in the Church of God, and an online instructor of music at Lee University. Having earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Sacred Music from the University of Memphis, he is an experienced worship leader. His research specialty is shape note music, and he has written and presented widely on the history and legacy of the Church Hymnal, which is popularly known as the “Red Back.”
Danny Murray will be the recipient of the Spirit of Azusa Award and the honored guest at a reception following the lecture. Murray has coached collegiate-aged musicians at Lee University for over forty years, including the world-renowned a cappella ensemble Voices of Lee since 1994. Prior to his leadership of Voices of Lee, he founded and directed New Harvest. He has served the Church of God as music minister for North Cleveland, member of the Global Worship Initiative Board, program director for Teen Talent, and a frequent worship leader at events such as Smoky Mountain Gathering and International General Assemblies.
Voices of Lee will open the program.
I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Lee University’s Cornerstone Chapel on the corner of Ocoee and 11th Streets!  If you are unable to be with us in person, please join online at LeeU.live.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear an inspiring voice and to honor the ministry of Danny Murray.
