I am a Christian, an assistant minister and love apologetics and joined this group on Tuesday. In the few posts I have engaged with, I have been told I am in error, aggressively questioned and that I need to become a disciple of Christ…

We all need to adopt 1 Peter 3:15; I am sorry you have encountered the opposite
-
How are you in error?
-
Sorry! Discussions in this group are extremely robust! You can almost think you are in a war zone, but as you adjust, there is amazing tough love more often… Welcome.

You’re a minister. you should know that not everyone agrees with you. in your church, at least there’s common consensus on beliefs. here, we’re all from different churches. so expect a lot of disagreements
Also, as much as we want to pretend its a christian group, it never is. there are always wolves lurking around – or trolls maybe a better term. its always been how Facebook debates go.

It’s in the name Christian. We follow The Way. We follow Christ. If you are a Christian then you are His follower.
where did people say you are in error?
-
Many Interpretations of the Bible and scriptures abound here! Opinions fly left and right. I have had to dig my heels in deep and just stand firm for what I believe in.
It can be tough to be questioned, called a fool or be told you are in error. I’ve grown tougher skin being in this group. And not one person has changed my mind on my core beliefs.
To each his or her own convictions. I answer to God only. I know my salvation and from where it comes from. I know my relationship with God and where I stand.
Its all good.

.most members here dont have the same belief as yours..so be careful..the only truth you can have is in Christ alone.
-
Lots of fundamentalists here who think THEIR way is the ONLY way. Thick skin and faith are needed…

Without clarifying your denominational and theological position it’s hard to address your question.
If your a JW or a Mormon than you’ll certainly get a lot of grief because those groups are considered heretical.
Sometimes there are wolves in sheep clothing making comments. Or, atheists with good questions or just sharp opinions.
If your a Pentecostal than some people won’t agree with your position on speaking in tongues. If your Catholic than many people are going to question certain doctrines. If your dispensationalist than you might get other objections.
The point being- true followers of Christ can differ on side issues as long as the central truths of the faith are held.
As brothers and sisters, the discussions should be in love. Sometimes miss understandings and people’s emotions come into play. It’s best to reply with kindness and a gentle spirit. It’s not a group for the easily offended.
-
Apologetics should be done with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. However, we are never told not to expect hostility- in fact Jesus already told us that, offenses will come and must come. These come only to test your humility – stay gentle regardless of the hostility which comes.

Yes in this arena if you would, you have to choose your battles wisely
-
That’s a HUGE error on your part!
How dare you make such a claim about this group??
You clearly need to become a disciple of Christ.See what i did there?
-
Me, too. I have nothing to brag about because i didn’t study theology or what, but i love to see different viewpoints. And when there are stuff i dont agree with or understand, i ask the Holy Spirit to help me with how i must react. Sometimes I end up just letting it pass. So Carl, maybe you need not to take heart every opinion every one says especially if it is against your belief or thoughts. Ask the Holy Spirit if your curiosity or other people’s opinion to you is worth dealing with, or if you just have to ignore it.

Stand firm in the word. expect disagreements for doctrine but the believers in this group love Jesus. I think we all can learn listening to believers from different denominations as well as different parts of the world. There are people in this group from all over. Try not to take it personal
-
Its hard to answer when you don’t give the details, why have you been accused of error?
-
-
That’s the experience we all face when debating Christians on any topic, a refusal to engage about the subject at hand, present a well reasoned and sourced argument. It’s frustrating, but most things here I’m finding are backed by willfull ignorance rather than apologetics.
-
Sheep bite, wolves in sheep’s clothing try to kill. You’ll just have to deal with it.
-
That’s the internet… people are so quick to be rude and disrespectful.
-
It’s because this group is wild. I wouldn’t get too worked up. It’s challenging at first because the people are soo off at times. But it can actually strengthen you when you realize your a child of God despite how many in here say your not misusing scripture to do so.
-
Join the crowd, but really that’s an honor, if you are sticking to the word contextually that is, but don’t be discouraged that which is to be expected; let’s keep on fighting the good fight!
-
Hate to say it, but no job title means that someone has biblically sound theology or is saved. There are very experienced pastors who get it VERY wrong.
Who are the people weeping when Jesus refers to the weeping and gnashing of teeth? Probably people who expected to go to heaven.
There are people who prophecy in the bane of Jesus who arent saved.
-
Join the crowd
-
So true. I just joined and I’m thinking about leaving the group because of how disrespectful people are.
-
Anyone who says they aren’t in error isn’t humble enough to considered that they might be in error.
-
Lots of brains here – not a lot of hearts. This is much like any other group on Facebook- everyone is SO MUCH SMARTER than you. *eyeroll* I stay because I’m learning. I fear for the folks with weak faith, however.
-
Sadly that’s how people are..
-
How about you explain the basis of your comment??
-
Most of them are very fond of themselves. That’s why they are in fb. Sometimes we can tolerate their bragging or stupidity but very difficult to endure their unreasonable insult on you. Especially they unfairly make false assumption and put words in your mouth.
-
Why would the person who said that to you think that a Christian and a disciple for Christ are two completely different things?
-
Hi Carl. I’ve been in this group for a little while. There are people who have genuine questions and are seeking answers. I tend to answer those people rather than those I suspect have posted something just for ‘mischief’.
Hang in there as there are some really interesting posts that make you think, and that’s where we learn.
Take care brother, see you when this is all over. -
Judging condemnation is too common; constructive, edifying debate too rare.
-
It seems to me, that most Christians have a set theology and anyone who does not hold to their theology is a heretic or unsaved.
-
This is an extremely bad moderated group. I have had the same experience. There are some people who engage in honest apologetics but most, assume something and send laughing emoticons tell you, you are from the Devil etc.
I have come to realize that those who ingage in such behavior are in need of salvation, because their fruit is no good.
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21 ESV -
Are you born again.
You need to do exactly what you are doing so your eternal destination is your choice.
Force change will = you blaming others.
Keep doing what you decided to do. Lead yourself to your end…if it is hell that will be your problem.
-
What were you supposedly in error about?
-
Welcome to the group…wear a helmet.
