Why would they? To them, the idea of God irrelevant and is unworthy of attention, much more to give their lives for.

It is just a religion. Whether they admit it or not. Upon pain of death their tune would change from self-declared majestic whales of education to the fastest convert ever witnessed by mankind.

They would die complainingly, not happily like Peter and others.

Religious people are willing to die for their religion in an act of self-preservation because they think if they deny their savior they will lose their salvation. Hardly an altruistic motive for truth, justice, and the religious way.
Every religion has its martyrs, so not every martyr’s death can be for the truth as the religions are just so very different, there can’t be multiple realities behind each belief system. So, many would be dying for a lost cause.

The band was threatened, their records were publicly burned, and radio stations refused to play their songs.

It’s not hard to “imagine” why John wrote this song a few years later. It’s a beautiful song, I wish he was still alive to sing it. ..♪♬♫❤
