I’m not comfortable that tithes are given directly to pastors as some that i knew have practiced. Is it biblical?

Tithing is not insisted upon in the NT.
-
I never touch the money as pastpr
-
Am thinking that what you saw was a lovegift not tithes?
-
Tithing is not in the NT and should not be insisted in our days. Let us just follow the teachings and examples of Apostle Paul and the early Christians. Anyway, God is teaching us to help the needy, so it is not just to support the Pastors but mostly the needy. And Pastors should not get more than he need otherwise, it is greediness and lack of faith.

The Bible instructs the Israelites that they must bring all the tithes to the store house so that there is meat in the house. Who live in the house of God? The priesthood.
In the nre testament Jesus says that we should pay our taxes and bring our tithes.
This thought stems from people assuming being a Pastor is for money. That is not the case. Yes there are people who take advantage of it but that’s a minority. Unfortunately the minority is in the spotlight. My father is a full time pastor and loves his people and the ministry but how must he survive? People are quick to ask for the pastors prayer and to Wed them and funerals etc, but don’t like tithing because the pastor may use it to survive and feed his family. Think about that. Many pastors aren’t working a 9-5 and are working in the ministry. Will God provide for them? Yes, through the church. God is not a genie with a magic wand. He uses people.
And to clarify, yes we are under grace and not the law. But the old testament is not to be ignored. Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill. Jesus said that love encompasses all the law and prophets. Now tithes is expressly mentioned in the old testament, but so is murder. Must we only believe the verses that we agree with and reject the ones we don’t? We cannot manipulate the Bible to fit our lifestyles, but changes our lifestyles to fit with the Bible.
And yes this does extend to tithes.

Once I read Malachi 3:10 I couldn’t wait to give. God says to put him to test, he will pour out Blessings. And he has for me time and time again. He also Loves a cheerful giver, 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. And I believe that’s the key. If you really believe God is going to Bless you abundantly through the faithfulness of giving. As his word states. Then shouldn’t we not only be eager but also cheerfully giving. God doesn’t need my money, it’s the act of being faithful. Once that money leaves my hand and has been placed in the offering dish, I have done what God has asked of me. What happens after that is between God and who’s in charge of handling it. I completely trust God will take care of those matters.

We have a rule in our denomination. We, as ordained clergy, are not allowed by our bylaws, to touch and/or handle money, period.
Saves a lot of issues!

Tithing is not in the NT but God loves a cheerful giver. That being said, if someone wants to tithe there is nothing wrong
Our finances go to the finance director in our church from which salaries are paid, bills are paid, etc. The pastor does not receive tithes but does accept gifts -
Tithing is the common practice here in my hometown. But it pays the Pastor, maintains the Church, covers the deficit of a Church run High School (many or most poor villagers cant pay fees), and use in other Church activities including ministerial or evengalising works, and keep the balances in the Church Treasury or account. Tithing is good for us economically weak community since pastors dont indulge in any other economic activities but is fully into Pastoring. Its good that they are well taken care of
-
Tithing is also good. Lets just call it a contract copied from the OT among the Church members to contribute according to their own income to make the Church rolling.

A treasurer and assistant treasurer, along with regular written financial updates before the congregation, are a wise idea. Direct payment to a Pastor, absent of financial accountability, is a great temptation for wrongdoing.
Also, a faithful Pastor will give of his effort and dedication, in proportion to his ability to do so without the need to split his attention between ministry and a secular job. “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn,” and “The workman is worthy of his hire.” A paid, full-time Pastor is free to give a paid, full-time Pastor’s work.

If you don’t trust your pastor with money, should you trust him with your soul?
-
You need to organize the Church as well to have church administration. We Pastors we should not mannage that thing but we manage our time for God and God will give us wisdom how to organize the church. Be transparent.

I am from a Jewish family background…we are 4th generation born again Jews. I researched this tithe thing because I was peeved off with seeing the demands from Pastors in the Island churches putting on their poor…I have seen kids get sick and families go without while the pastors get rich…so…
For your information: according to the Torah and the Bible: the tithe is OT and is not money. It is food. The Israelites were told to bring food into the temple as a tithe and 10% was used for the Levites for feeding their families as they were the workers day and night in the temple. In the NT we are to be cheerful givers and look after one another as if you remember in the book of Acts not one person among the church was in need. If you want to look at what real giving is look in the gospel and see the widow woman, Jesus said she gave more than all of them. Why? Because she gave everything she had…mmm none of us give up everything totally and wholly on this earth yet that is what he wants us to truly give…can’t take it to heaven…if you don’t believe me on this please go to your local synagogue and speak to the Rabbi and ask to be shown in the Torah and have it explained. -
If you’re not comfortable that your ten percent is going to better your church, find a different church. A good church will have total transparency and a weekly or monthly “business meeting” showing all collections and how they’re dispersed.

Tithing, especially as it is preached today, is not Biblical. It was Old Testament, and wasn’t even money, but food.
That being said, pastors are permitted to live off their job: “the labourer is worthy of his wages”. Pastors provide a very important service within the Church, and frankly, it is both stressful and time consuming. It becomes a problem when they’re greedy, but I think a good congregation, as long as they are transparent, should be wise in how they allocate any money the congregation receives, at least some of which should go to providing the pastor’s needs.
-
When you consider tithing, I would say it is first obedience that you you consider and not just blessings. God wants a cheerful giver and not grudgingly. Remember God does not need your money, it all belongs to him already.
-
In our tithing, everything is documented. The pastor, evangelist etc. are not allowed to handle money matters.
We have an assigned Church personnel and an external non-Church accountant.
All financial decisions are decided by a panel. Not just a few people.
And all records are transparent. And all Church expenses are presented to the congregation once a year. -
We are to give to the Kingdom of Christ, for the cause of Christ. Tithing is not required or biblical.
-
Most pastors don’t want to know who’s a big giver and who isn’t
-
My pastor doesn’t know about the money that comes in and he doesn’t want to know either
-
I love our church. We have the pastors and elders that control the finances. Money is given to missions, church and local outreach. And the books are open to anyone who wants to see. They even don’t have an offering plate during services. Love the atmosphere to make it as welcoming and loving as possible.
-
1Corinthians 16:2 …….for God loves a cheerful giver.
-
2 Corinthians 9:7
-
Tere is no biblical mandate in the new testament to ith, giving yes tithing no, tithing is mandated by the law along with the keeping of the Sabbath both not mandated in the new covenant.
-
I believe tithing must be done out of love. In hope that the pastor would use it for his own purposes as rightfully living and in the business of spreading the gospel to save others.
-
If u give tithes , always be certain that the ministry u r giving to is accepted by God .
-
Check your heart
-
Prehapes not. Luke 11:39 and Luke 12:1-4
-
No, the tithes should not go directly to the pastor, they should go to the church treasurer under the oversight of the elders. He should be paid an agreed upon salary.
-
Pastor Kenneth Copeland has four private planes. Thanks to your generous donations.
-
tithing is the standard but we must give graciously since God is gracious. If you give less than the tithe you are more unbiblical than those who are tithing.
-
Romans 14:23
-
Tithing IS in the New Testament, not just OT.
Jesus said so Himself to keep doing it.
Moreover, tithing means your heart is right with the Lord, giving Him the firstfruits of your increase and with it is the promise of blessing for you have put the Lord first and your trust in Him, not in money or works.Luke 11:42 and Matthew 23:23
-
If you are uncomfortable with the pastors, leave them be. Your tithe is for the Lord.
What they do with it, right or wrong, is between them and the Lord.
-
Give to poor
-
The tithing goes in a account that supports the church, that includes the pastor salary
-
Why is comfort so important to you?
-
I think it’s ok to support the pastor but his salary should not grow percentage wise with the amount given. It should stay the same regardless of the amount given. That means more money goes to support the ministry’s and the pastor doesn’t feel inclined to ask for more tithes to get a larger cut.
-
So you would let the Shepard go hungry?
-
call it tithe, then u must follow everything God instructed to the israelites TO THE DOT, no more, no less, no ifs, no buts (do not add or subtract to law)
read, study, learn, meditate ALL the LAW stated in the torah then
-
The tithe goes to the church not the pastor, if you are in a church where the pastor takes it or collects it then it is time to leave that church
-
Title goes to the church, but is entrusted to the pastor as the head and administrator of the church. When talking about tithes, no one can legitimately state that this has nothing to do with the pastor since it’s the message of the pastor (among other things) that helps the congregation understand how much to give (10%) and why they’re giving it. The pastors role cannot be dismissed in this.
