The idea that all sins are the same, as if God can’t tell the difference between premeditated murder and a lie to get out of an uncomfortable position is not only unbiblical but a new doctrine that hasn’t been seriously thought through.
Calvinists should know this to, in the Westminster catechism this is clearly articulated.
That said it’s true that all violations of a known law (sin) leads to death, and this doesn’t excuse lesser sins.
Lying out of a ticket is death just like murder is death.
If a man is guilty of one part of the law he is guilty of the whole law.
My view is that we need to look at stumping our toe and saying, “l&$)/“ !!! As death. Realizing that one sin is death and realizing every hour of the day as we fall short of his glory that we are relieved of this burden.
Both deserve eternal punishment but increase in severity; i.e a false teacher is a worse off punishment than a lie. However I think the idea may come a little bit from James 2:10
Kind of difficult to fathom that lying out of a ticket vs raping a child carries the same punishment. It’s even harder to fathom that both are forgiveable the same. I’ve never been able to wrap my brain around that one.
Yes there are differences between sins, but all sin falls short of God’s glory since it makes something or someone other than God one’s highest good. Therefore, all sin needs to be confessed and God’s forgiveness sought.
Sin is missunderstood of we think only in terms of the individual acts. Those are just symptoms of the spiritual disease of sin, which is rebellion from God. Humanly speaking the individual sins are distinctive. But in God’s. eye the all scream the same think. I hate you God. Therefore whether we just feel or think that way, it is still sin. Read the sermon on the mount. A very sharp preachment of low even in the blessings which shows ia what we are failing too do by the consquences.
some explained it to me this way…if our life is a huge plate glass window and we shoot a bb at it or blasts a cannon ball through it….both mar the window though the degree of damage is different the window is still marred…any sin mars our life before god…. there are different ramiifications depending on the severity of the sin—a small sin (white lie to get out of a ticket) as opposed a serious sin of murder which can lead to jail time.
Sin is sin and all sin separates from God. We repent and ask forgiveness. Silly to debate if one sin is worse than another
He is showing how bad we are. As the old testament says even our righteousnesses are as filthy ragged. Remember at one point he even say the temple worship he commanded disguested him. They outwardly conformed but the hearts were far away. The Sermon on the. Mount is not gospel but law.
If you slip off of the roof of a 5 story building you fall 5 stories and hit the ground. If you get a running start and jump you still fall 5 stories, and hit the ground. Sin is sin in its eternal ramifications. Relationally and consequentially they greatly vary. The effect on our walk and our little world is proportional to the sin, but God’s provision in Christ is not.
Hmm, of course He can tell the difference in your intent but He hates all sin equally because the effect is the same – the pain and damage sin causes to His creation, which He made to be perfect and beautiful – sin corrupts. In that sense, one sin is not worse than another.
All sin is abhorrent in the eyes of God. I can’t weigh my sin of lying has less than a homosexual- to God we are simply sinners. That being said, I do believe murder and rape/torture etc especially when children are involved are more akin to blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Only God can judge for sure, but no I definitely do not think Hitler’s sins and the average man’s would be equal. There’s a point where someone has clearly chosen to worship evil and it’s clear they have no intent of redemption.
On the last day, only 1 sin will be punished in hell. NOT SINS.
