   Does it need one? Asked of the governor, Roman soldiers responsible to Rome. They were guarding against the body being stolen. Sets up the story for the next day.

   Because the Jews were afraid someone was going to steal Christ’s body. The apologetic significance is that it is evidence that His body was not stolen. Those guards, had they let the body be stolen would likely have been severely punished or put to death themselves so they would never have let it happen.
