Hi everyone, the last church service I watched online thanks to this quarantine used the story of Jesus and Nicodemus in John 3.
What stood out to me, and I’m not sure why it hasn’t before, is that in verse 13 Jesus says that no one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven.
In light of that how do we view Elijah’s ascension? If he didn’t ascend to heaven then where?

Elijah and Moses were both taken there. Elijah while still alive. Moses after his death. I believe these are the 2 examples of how people will eventually go : one group of saints will be taken up when alive, and another group of saints will be resurrected, as the bible says. Jesus says He will go and prepare a place for us, and then He will come back and take us to be where He is.

Also we referred to the sky as heaven
And the solar system as the heavens -
It was a rapture not an ascension

Elijah went into the sky, the first heaven. About ten years after Elijah went up in a whirlwind this happened:
2 Chronicles 21:12
And there came a writing to him (king Jehoram) from Elijah the prophetElijah was not in heaven writing letters back to the earth, he had been transported elsewhere on the earth. We are assured that in Adam ALL men die. Elijah and Enoch were no exceptions. Enoch’s death is recorded in Hebrews 11. Is Elijah that one person righteous enough, besides Jesus, to have lived a sinless life? The answer is no, he sinned as all men do, and he died.

No contradictions there, Jesus was in the grave, that was showing the sign of Jonah, because Elijah was strong with the Lord, he destroyed the Baal priests, Elijah May have been fully Man, but his life and ministry tell a bigger story .. if I were you, I’d be looking at Christ’s transfiguration, who was there??
