Syn=same. Optic=looking
Matthew-Luke are written with a similar/same look. They are the synoptic gospels. Johns the oddball of the Gospels.
This is greatly simplified. I can add meat to this if you’d like. Hope that helps

Matthew, Mark, and Like are the synoptic gospels, this just means they are very much alike, where John is quiet different

Matthew, Mark, and Luke are similar in describing the events in the ministry of Jesus.
John depends more upon the prophecies about Messiah than the other three Gospels. He starts with a reference to Genesis and continues to apply the older writings throughout his Gospel. It’s a different approach from the other three synoptic accounts.

But come to think of it, mark was written in about 65 __70 AD and Matthew in about 75__85 AD though disputed by some scholars, passages common to two gospels i.e Matt and mark is more than the passages common to Luke and mark. Then a question is being posed, if Matthew was dependent on mark source, why was he an apostle of jesus(oral tradition) because mark wasn’t an apostle but an assistant to three prominent leaders(peter, Paul and banabas)

Yes, it means that each gospel says the same thing but from different viewpoints

as in same or similar in the case of the so called synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke).
