My response is technically not answering the question, but my response will be, what are you doing to help the suffering?
If you believe in the atheistic evolution, you have no logical reason to claim that COVID-19 wiping out the weaker species is a “bad” thing.
Suffering and pain show the depths of His goodness! If there was good all the time, how would we understand his grace and love?
I agree with couple responses. Suffering came from sin. We are told we have dominion too. Now that we suffer, we should still help one another rather pointing fingers.
God works in each one’s life separately. Each one according to his faith. Sometimes it’s a lesson, sometimes it’s an encouragement, sometimes He wants to hear our voice or talk to us… etc. Sometimes it’s a wake up call
Also I don’t like the “if there is no suffering, then how do we know good?” Heaven is place of no suffering based on my perception
This hedonistic approach has influenced people in a lot in our society. More suffering should be overcome by more pleasure
People who answer that we need to have pain to appreciate the times of no pain are giving a Pious religious foolish answer. It’s like saying you have to eat poop every once in a while so you can appreciate that food doesn’t taste like poop it is a ridiculous thing to say
There is no adequate answer to the problem of evil and suffering. However in Christ God shares in the suffering leading us from the cross to the joy of the resurrection.
Greatest answer to man suffering is described in the word calvary.
The love and goodness of God is dependent on curing all the ills of mankind. Pain and suffering are an essential part of existence. They serve a purpose that is often hard for us to comprehend. Pain and suffering were brought into the world by our sin and sin remains the cause of most of it. War, murder, rape, theft, etc. are our choices. Things such as tornadoes, floods, droughts, etc. while initiated by our sin are now part of the natural order as ordained by God.
God can and does save us from these things. However, He does not always save us from our own folly. He will save us from our sins but there may still be a price to pay while we are still on this earth.
Many ways…. the events happening prove the Bible is true.
1. God warned us of all the things that are happening so that we may beleive in Him and be saved before its too late.
2. Jesus promised that in Earth we will have trials and tribulations, but we can trust in Him for he has defeated the world.
3. God also talks about creation crying out for God’s redemption. Covid 19 like Saars and Swine flu or cow fever, is a virus produced by humans in China consuming wild animals and bats that were kept in terrible sick conditions, exposed to their own excrement and in confinement. Humans abusing nature eating these sick animals instead of being good stewards of our creation are paying the consequences for this sin.
4. Despite of the crisis there is hope. Many people are starting to see miracles happen and now that all the material things that they relied on are gone, they will seek and trust in God and He will be ther for those who truly seek Him. God never lets us be tested beyond our strength, this crisis has the power to rebuild and refocus our faith and our life.
5. Since humans are staying home quarantined, the ozone has improved and the air is purer of pollution, nature is having a respite and hope after our abusive and consimistic behavior.
Where is the logic in that statement. God’s goodness depends on bow we feel about it? Does a larents goodness depend on how the child feels about it. Or a judge’s justice on how the criminal feels about it.
Well if you are not of my people which are us Children of Israel the Hebrew Israelites his Chosen People then you will not see the goodness, because the Good News is only for my people..
Story of Joseph… the good came after years of waiting and doing good in the hardship. Had the evil not happened to him he would have never had the opportunity to save Egypt from famine and become second in command of the most powerful country in the region, possibly the world at the time.
Sin entered the world through the fall of man and there has been suffering since that time some of which we will never fully understand but my Lord Jesus suffered more than any human ever will in this world. But we have a promise from God thay one day all suffering will end for those who have been saved through the atoning work of Christ in Revelation 21:4. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying or pain for the former things have passed away. Until that time we will suffer in this world But God can and does bring good out of suffering that could have happened no other way. We as Christians walk by faith right now but the day will come when we will know as we are known 1 Corinthians 13:12

Can no one see… (keep in mind, we’re really just barely only 2 weeks into this)… that in these times we might have a greater appreciation for the things most of us all still have – the really important things – family, shelter, food, water, heat, technology to connect?

I would say look beyond the bad and look at the good, focus on the things of God, the good things and don’t dwell on the bad.
Well, the mere fact that we even use terms like “good” or “bad” or “evil” shows that there is some standard we are measuring things by (ultimately God’s goodness). If there was no God, then why is anything good or bad? If there is no God, then life is just meaningless, chaotic events taking place for no reason. Sinful acts simply become acts of survival. Why shouldn’t I look out for myself before others? It’s survival of the fittest…right?
So, it’s the fact that we our image bearers of Someone who is ultimate goodness itself that we look to do any good in this world.
Evil is merely the corruption of good. If there is evil, then there must be some good it was corrupted from.
The question is not why there is so much evil in the world, but why isn’t there MORE evil considering what man is like when left to his own devices? The fact that there are people out there fighting for social justice, the fact that people are living and breathing at all who ought to have died, the fact that families are fostering or adopting children, the fact that thousands of new recruits join the military each year, the fact that so many people in this world are choosing to put others first, WHY? That is the real question.
Here is the thing, I truly believe that in the past Christians (and even non-Christians) were so used to death and hardship that they accepted pain in this world as part of being alive. When you visit an old cemetery, how many babies or child graves do you see in our parents and grandparents generation? Many. People expected death and pain. They knew that life was not easy. The Bible tells the same story. It is not easy to be a human, and it’s not easy to be a Christian. But, I think the reason that the problem of pain is even a problem is that people today have become soft and spoiled by all the advances in technology and the medical world, etc. People have a better chance at survival these days, and a better quality of living, and in some ways we’ve made that security an idol. If we really believe God is good, we believe He has a reason for the hardships we face in this life, and even if those hardships hurt, we lay them at His feet, trusting that He really is good and loving throughout it all. Anyway, getting off my soap box now….

Next, look at the unbeliever’s use of the word of ‘we’.
Is he speaking of Christians or the world of men and Christians as well?
The unbeliever is not lumped in with those who are in Christ Jesus and he cannot know God from where he stands (dead in his trespasses and sin). The unbeliever does not know God and does not know His people.

What does all of this mean?
It means that what God calls good is not what the world calls good.
Good, according to God, is anything He deems good.
What serves Him and shows forth His glory is good.
The goodness of God involves moving the world of men to its ordained ends and the lifting up of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Indeed, the Lord is good.
We would have no concept of suffering unless we were aware of what good is.
Wow… How much time do they have??
