Struggling with the concept of once saved always saved. Any insight or biblical references that support this thinking would be greatly appreciated.

Philippines 2:12 disagrees with OSAS

The subject of Eternal security has been taking to the extreme by many Calvinist theologians. We must avoid the extremes of Calvinism and Arminianism. However, this is my take on this: Believers are eternally secured in the love of God in Christ Jesus. Eternal security shouldn’t promote antinomianism or make us go off guard. Our security rests on the atoning work of Christ and ultimately on His love. None can separate us from His love- not even our greatest sins. I do not take side with Calvinism or Armenianism on the matter of Eternal security because none of the two appeal to my theological reasoning, but what I do know is that, I am eternally secured in His love. I have this guarantee that even if I fall or fail (though I should strive not to, but it is a possibility while in the flesh), if only I return to my Master in sincere repentance, I will once again be embraced by the arms of Grace and Love. This is my security.

Believe in what the Bible said and not on opinion. Let us study what the Bible is saying and not be swayed to and fro.

Osas isn’t biblical

We are in a covenant agreement with God. He will be our God when we are His people. If we make a pledge of faith and then walk outside of it, then we are in rebellion and have broken the covenant. God is not forced to be bound by a contract that we have broken. However, if He loves the person, He will do whatever it takes (good attention or bad attention) to bring the covenant relationship back together. It’s easier to stay in fellowship than be pursued by our jealous God.

Once saved always saved isn’t biblical, but it IS understood why it’s passionately debated. Example, what about former pastors who are now atheists and even outspoken and devout atheists not just walking away from the pulpit from exhaustion?? Were they never saved in the first place?? The prodigal son walked away and then came back.

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and shave shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.I don’t think some one could lose their salvation. God is not going to “kick someone out” , however, if someone CHOOSES to willfully walk away from Jesus and become an atheist, then they probably will have a hardened heart and they will have no desire to come back to Jesus. I had a person tell me once “I could never come back because of the bad things I did”. I told him as long as you have a desire to come back, Jesus will welcome you with open arms.

The “once-saved-always-saved” doctrine is not biblical.
Paul wrote in the New Testament that it was possible, even though he had this spirit-filled saved relationship, to be cast away:
“Christian, know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air; But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway” (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
Paul also writes, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering.” Once a person is saved, why would they need to hold fast? He goes on to add, “Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works, for if we sin willfully after we have received a knowledge of the truth there remains no more sacrifice for sins but a certain fearful looking forward to of judgment”( Hebrews 10:23, 24).

If you look at the falling away word in the original greek. I honestly don’t know how people can believe in once saved always saved.
Look at what falling away in greek means.2 Thessalonians 2:3
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Falling away in greek: forsake truth.
Greek: ἀποστασία
Transliteration: apostasia
Pronunciation: ap-os-tas-ee’-ah
Definition: Feminine of the same as G647; defection from truth (properly the state) (apostasy): – falling away forsake.

2 Corinthians 4:3, But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
1 Timothy 1:5, Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
When you’ve received Paul’s “my gospel”, you have received the “end of the commandment”.

Once we are saved, it is God who secures our salvation. He gives us grace to obey and endure until the end. If we fall back, he accepts us again if we turn to Him. Those who fall away, may not have been saved in the first place. It could just be later on revealed in their lives.
John 10:27-29
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.1 John 2:18-19. The thinking ain’t true. There is no assured salvation. Phi 2:12 says workout your salvation with trembling.. Means it can be lost if a person is careless in his ways..

Can an Elect fall from Grace? Possible. Will an Elect fall from grace? Never.

I do not think once saved always saved is very accurate. Jesus spoke of 10 virgins and 5 not being ready. The key is virgins which I think is referring to saved persons.
But there is also another scriprure that says, those that was given to him the enemy cannot take from him.
So I guess I’m no help lol -
Reminder: In qouting verses always consider the context, never isolate it from the whole, in order to avoid wrong interpretation of the biblical passages. Example Phil. 2:12 “work out your salvation” is not referring to salvation but to the wrong attitude of the two prominent persons in Philippian Church (Phil. 4:2) who were quarreling. (see also Phil. 2:1-8)

What about revelation 2 and 3 it talks about the 7 churches some not saved, some were saved but backsliding and being lukewarm and others are saved and will be with the lord on the new earth and heaven. To me it says that you are not guaranteed once saved always saved.

John 3 :16 eternal life means eternal life or Jesus wouldn’t of said it He would of said we’ll something else.if your salvation can be lost then He wouldn’t of said eternal life. Plus what Jesus did is much greater than what Adam did

Believers have conditional security for their salvation not eternal security.
You are free to walk out of the faith but is that not the reason for all the warnings?Until we enter heaven, we are not FINALLY safe.

Judas Iscariot was among the 12 and 70 whose names were attested to be in the book of Life by our Lord yet we know his end.

Revelation 2 and 3 contain warnings to the 7 churches encouraging them to either repent or continue in some sort of deeds or face the consequences?
Why all that if we can’t lose our salvation when we have it.
It’s conditional, not eternal.
Wether we fail or not, Christ’s life is eternal and he lives forever. That life he gives us, that life also he can take back if we despise and turn away from him.

Salvation is Spiritual and not physical or in the mind. You are indwelt by God. He never leaves you. There is nothing that can ever seperate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. No matter what lies others want to sell. -
Doubting God is worse.
He already promised you.

The gospel of our salvation is the greatest proof of OSAS. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
…That if you believe Christ died for your sins, was buried, rose again fulfilling the scriptures, you will be saved…
Nowhere in those verses does it indicate that we must work to keep ourselves saved.

The sealing of the Holy Spirit is the “earnest” (as in earnest money to hold a purchase) and it is the surety of our inheritance, which occurs when Christ returns for his Bride.

If you question your salvation, your not saved. Jesus said that He was the way and if we believed in Him and call on His name w shall not be put to shame. Romans 10.

Hebrews 9:25-28these show that 1. those who receive salvation are given an eternal inheritance and 2. that christ died for our sins once and for all, which means that as we die a spiritual death, we die to ourselves once and for all. and this death results in desire for his desire, desire for him, and a changed heart. James even said that he would show you his faith by his works! because he desires to do that now!
but, i think that phrase, especially here in the bible belt, causes confusion and even licentiousness. it causes a people who go to church on sunday’s, but don’t participate in discipleship, fellowship, or serving others ?

The cases for OSAS is very strong. I agree with them 99.9% of the time. But I disagree with them on Demas. I think one can decide after legitimately receiving Jesus, to later reject Him due to severe persecution , or “fall from grace” back into works-righteousness.

I believe the Bible is silent on that subject. The “proof-texts” both sides use are unconvincing when viewed in context. Therefore, I don’t take a strong stand on it one way or the other.

Well we still sin. I think the difference is we know when we’ve sinned. I either repent immediately or my conscience becomes like a pebble in a shoe.

A question. Do you feel convicted about you sin? If you don’t, you aren’t his child. The father disciplines his children.
