Did Jesus experience fear? (Please support with scripture)
If so, does that not impact his perfection?
If so, is it because he came to live in the flesh and fear plays a part in living in the flesh?
My friends and I have had a debate for days on this subject. We are all Christians and love each other but find things like this to discuss. Please share your thoughts and findings…
I believe He experienced fear in the garden prior to His capture. Definitely attributed to His humanity. Has nothing to do with His perfection. Still fully God and fully man. Yet another aspect of what a loving God voluntarily endured for His creation.
Examine what He felt, physically, in the Garden of Gethsemane …. but He over-came it for and by His Holy Love …. tempted in all ways, but never gave into sin …. though He was tempted in far worse ways than even we ever have been. And He has Given to all who come to Him the power to overcome “even as” He did. Rev. 3
Wow, great question. I believe Jesus experienced some kind of huge emotion just prior to His arrest. Of course not being in His shoes, so to speak, it’s impossible for us to know what that emotion was. He asked The Father to remove the cup, but ended it with “Your will be done”. Remember too, He was in human form.
So, that being said, my next question would be, if it were in fact fear, what kind of fear was it. The Bible speaks a lot about fear. Fear…is it a sin? If so, what kind of fear?
Jesus was sinless, the Bible said it. The Bible is God’s Word. At some point we must admit that we don’t know everything and Christianity is ultimately based on trust.
Why would it impact his perfection?
Fear isn’t a sin
It’s an emotion that God installed in our hearts
Sometimes fear is good it can prevent you from doing harmful things to yourself and others around you

He has not given us a spirit of fear…
Since he was fully God and yet he was also fully man, I would suggest Jesus understands fear, perhaps even go so far as to say he may have been exposed to it, but that’s no to say he was fearful.
To say His physical body did not experience fear (increased heart rate, adrenaline rush…) would be the same as saying He felt no pain from the scourging or cross.
His body was physical like ours and subject to death. It reacted in all the ways outs do.
He was fully God and fully human. Key word fully.

Why would the Son of God fear the Father?
Because Jesus knows the AWESOMENESS of the Father and did not want to disappoint the Father in any way (Godly fear).
When God sent Jesus in the flesh/ he was was made to be like man in everyway, to feel what man feels: love, to feel heartbreak, fear, disappointment and worst of all betrayal.
Jesus was even tempted by evil so that he would know what humankind faces on a daily basis.
The fact that God allowed his Son to be tested in the flesh required great faith.
*All these things would make Jesus a perfect High Priest in that he could sympathsize with man’s weaknesses because he too had been tested in all respects.
