T. L. Lowery preached a conference around 1988 in Germany for the servicemen’s department and it went over well with the servicemen and Center directors. The following week I received a letter from Brother Lowery sharing his excitement about preaching to the servicemen and thanking us for the hospitality. He included a request to me to search for a good used Mercedes to give to a friend. He said he would send the necessary funds to pay and ship the car.

The letter was typed on National Church of God stationary. I thought to myself that such a request was inappropriate and especially on Church stationary. It was a request to buy a car for a friend so that was OK!

I immediately knew the place to go to find a used Mercedes on the German market. But I never did.

A few days later I was on the phone with another director and I ask him did he get any strange letters lately. He said reluctantly he did and did not say who it was. I told him my letter was from T. L. Lowery. He said his was as well and that he had found a car to send. When he knew that I had already gotten a letter he backed out of sending a car.

Eventually I had heard from most center Directors that they had gotten the same letter on National COG stationary.

One director had already shipped a car and Lowery sent the money. The problem is that the dollar fluctuated in exchange for Deutsch Marks and the director was left with over a $300 shortfall. He had to pay from his own pocket to send the car. He subsequently notified Bro Lowery and the last I heard from the director, Lowery never made good on reimbursement.

The purpose was to get more than 10 Mercedes and I suppose give to ten friends of his.

What do you think?

I do to and I bought one and shipped it back to the states. No, the Church did not pay for the shipping. Out of pocket expenses.

What purpose does this make ?

their deeds are recorded for our benefit. we need to know that the pedestal people will do bad things.

I did hand carry the letter to several executive offices of Gen Headqtrs – There was mostly silence and no statements of remorse from everyone who was shown, T.L. was living then and if he had been there I would have shown it to him.

While pastoring in Memphis, Tennessee T. L. Lowery preached the West Tennessee Camp meeting at the prestigious Ellis Auditorium. There was a breakfast meeting one morning for all the COG ministers in the west Tennessee area.

The Tennessee State Offices paid for the room and breakfast. Bro Lowery read a manuscript with the same energy of a good sermon. He moved quickly to the closing and then to everyone’s surprise he introduced several men of his church who made a presentation of a pyramidal business opportunity.
He wanted us to sign up to join an auto parts distribution. This was wrong in that it was done as a State functioned breakfast. I knew it was wrong.

  6. So you have nothing better to do than pick on a dead man? Get a life dude.

  7. Wow! I think we all know that the ‘pedestal people’ are not perfect, nor is anyone else! Why bring this up now? If it was so important, why not push the ‘issue’ when it occurred and when Brother T.L. could respond? Bless your heart!

  8. Charles perhaps you should stop this. Belittling a dead man is wrong.

Belittling anyone whether dead or alive is WRONG!!!!!But that is how Charles gets his kicks or his high . He enjoys belittling women especially. Wonder what his wife is like after having to live with someone like Charles. Lol

  10. It could be rumors to discredit a man of God. it could also be someone who ordered some stationary. Either way we should learn what the word says about spreading rumors and also what it says about people who speak ill of a man of God Numbers 12:1. Rumors- Proverbs 17:4 You also need 2 or 3 witnesses 1 Timothy 5:19 and also see Proverbs 18:7-8.

A rumor is a lie presented to malign someone –its a serious charge

  13. Just mere propaganda… Nothing more than a smear campaign against the COG and Dr. Lowery. Good day sir.

  14. Wow…I feel sorry for you. You seem very bitter.

I have cause for bitterness and I suffer from some form of Post Pastoral Traumatic Stress Syndrome. I have come a long way on my struggle I moved from bitter to blessed. I see men as trees walking!
