Remembering Bro. Sam Edmunds: in 1957 Sam was my district…
Remembering Bro. Sam Edmunds: in 1957 Sam was my district pastor, he treated me like a son and I thought of him as a father. Sam had a radio broadcast on Sun. afternoons at 3pm and I would drive 42 miles to be his ” announcer ” it was my first experience at radio work ( I have since been on many stations )
One Sun. after the broadcast Sam asked me if I would ride into Chicago with him to visit a member of his who was in the Catholic hospital. Before we left Sam went into a little side room and put on a round clerical collar. Back then there were strict visiting hours, only priests could go in at any time. I walked slightly behind Sam and the nurses and nuns would nod and say good afternoon father. Sam had a hard time keeping a straight face but we both got back in time for our evening services.
Sam had one sermon that I’ll never forget, at about half way through he took off one shoe and start pounding on the pulpit with it. There was only one like him!
