Ulna Burell Black
Ulna Burell Black, 93, transitioned to heaven on March 27,2023. Born in Gadsden, Alabama on June 14, 1929, Ulna spent more than 45 years in college administration in partnership with her husband of 69 years, Dr. Hubert Black, who preceded her in death in 2014. Their educational co-labors included service at Lee University, Chesapeake College, Troy State University, West Coast Christian College, Asian School for Christian Ministries, and Lincoln Memorial University. An avid reader and equestrian, Ulna graduated from Etowah County High School in Attalla, Alabama, and earned B. A. and M. A. degrees from Troy State University.
The daughter of Frank and Ada (Hatley) Burell, she is the mother of Hubert (Sara) and David (Valerie). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Chris (Lydia), Michael (Shawnya), Justin (Jaime) Black, Cindy (Jonathan) Guevart, Kurt (Amber) and Greta Richter. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren (by age), Graham, Connor, Emerson, Corbin, Adriana, Ava, Luca, Evan, Holt, Dorothy, Peyton, and Ryan. They treasure memories of tirelessness, a commitment to justice, a lively curiosity, empathy, a deep faith and a marriage for the ages.
