Blood Blinds

A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame and will share an inheritance among the brothers. _Proverbs 17:2

There is nothing we can do to harm our most loved and cherished ones – our family (especially our children) than to blindly prefer them and reward them over others.

This hurts them and sabotages our ability to leverage our own lives for good.

How many times have we observed this in others!

Nepotism ends up stifling growth and productivity because leaders allow their natural love for family to override the mission.  And nobody wins. 

The people see their leader compromising his integrity by putting family before what is best for the organization and the end result is that the leader’s family member is stunted by being spared the necessary hard knocks which builds character and refines their skills and, in the process, the best team players go elsewhere where merit matters.  And I can’t blame them.

The ONE THING for today: Merit matters.  Do not allow blood to blind you to the winners around you who are getting it done.
