Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for November 4, 2025.

In international news, Ukraine’s high schools are modernizing their “Defending Ukraine” curriculum, now incorporating practical skills such as drone operation, first aid, and radio use, moving beyond marching and wooden guns. Meanwhile, Israelis are grappling with the potential deployment of an international force to secure the fragile Gaza ceasefire, a significant shift from their traditional self-reliance on security matters. And in Senegal, rising sea levels are threatening to sweep homes into the sea, yet many communities are hesitant to abandon their ancestral lands despite the escalating risk.

Moving to prophecy news, recent reports indicate President Trump’s pledge to investigate and “wipe out” Islamists in Nigeria, a country noted for severe Christian persecution, a stance praised by rapper Nicki Minaj. Meanwhile, Ukraine is looking to expand its international presence with new interest offices in Berlin and Copenhagen. In the Middle East, Israel’s Defense Minister Katz has issued a stark warning to Hezbollah about “playing with fire” and criticized Lebanon’s president for inaction following targeted eliminations of terror leaders. Closer to home, Christian leaders in the UK are pushing back against government policies, including a proposed ban on “conversion therapy,” which they argue threatens biblical truth. Lastly, there’s a growing concern about an “ideological virus” of anti-Zionism spreading among young evangelicals, challenging traditional views on Israel’s unique purpose in God’s plan.

And finally, in Jewish history, looking back at November 5th, we note a couple of significant events. In 1271, Mahmud Ghazan, a Mongol ruler, was born. His later conversion to Islam in 1295 had a profound impact, relegating Persian Jews in Tabriz once again to dhimmi status. This was followed by his successor’s destruction of several synagogues and enforcement of laws requiring Jews to wear a distinctive mark. Then, in 1370, King Casimir III of Poland passed away. He was widely regarded as a benevolent ruler towards Jews, having confirmed their privileges in 1344 and strictly prohibiting the kidnapping of Jewish children for forced baptism, even under penalty of death. He was certainly seen as a cut above the average ruler by the Jewish community.
