“Our restaurant was excellent and made a lot of people happy. But it hadn’t yet changed the conversation.”
_Will Guidara, Unreasonable Hospitality
Over the years I have had different people ask me a version of this question: “If God knows how we feel, why did Jesus have to come to earth to suffer as a human? Couldn’t God have just chosen to forgive us by declaring it so?”
This is a good and worthy question and a lot has been written about it. Here’s my little contribution to the conversation:
Some things are so important that you must physically get involved.
Sending money or sending others has its place. Praying about it is often all that is required. But sometimes your personal touch is required.
It’s like eating…
- Fine dining has its place
- A quick stop at your favorite corner restaurant is often the best choice
- Even truck stop food has its place
But sometimes people need more than food; they need food cooked-with-love and money can’t buy that anywhere. You have to cook that meal yourself.
The ONE THING for today: There are those times—those special moments of destiny—when only your touch will make the difference. Usually, it will be costly for you but it is the only way for you to achieve what you hope to achieve.
And when you look back over your life, I promise you, it will not be the money you sent or the prayers you prayed that will bring you the most joy, it will be the people you actually touched and the things you actually crafted with your own hands that will bring you the most satisfaction.
Or put another way, at the end of the day, the best cooking is home-cooking.
