Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for January 14, 2026.

Today in U.S. news, discussions continue around whether the U.S. needs to own Greenland for security, with historical cooperation with Denmark suggesting otherwise. The legal definitions of protest, lawbreaking, and terrorism are under scrutiny as opponents of ICE operations face “extremist” labels, even as the boundaries of civil disobedience are debated. The Smithsonian Institution is grappling with a White House demand concerning “improper ideology,” raising questions about its independence, while state-federal tensions over immigration enforcement are escalating in places like Minnesota. Furthermore, the Supreme Court is set to weigh in on whether states can legally bar transgender women athletes from competing in school sports. Internationally, a diplomatic “divorce” between Saudi Arabia and the UAE over Yemen is threatening cooperation on wider issues like Gaza and Syria. Cuba’s long-standing soft power on the global stage is also highlighted after a significant number of Cuban nationals were among the victims in a recent U.S. strike in Venezuela.

For our latest video offerings, we have “Sacred Seasons Wednesday Night Revivals” with Pastor Dr. Charles Houston, a discussion on how “Fasting brings clarity,” and a segment from Perry Stone titled “God Always Speaks From 3 To 6 In The Morning.”

Regrettably, we have no recent faith-based news to report from our FaithNews RSS feed today.

In prophecy news, the political world saw former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton refusing subpoenas to testify in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Globally, many are wondering if we’re witnessing the dawn of a “New World,” with current geopolitics seemingly altered overnight, possibly linked to President Trump’s foreign policy. Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu has stated that Israel is closely monitoring the intensifying protests in Iran, expressing awe at the bravery of the Iranian people, as the IDF prepares for potential fallout. These protests are reportedly growing into what’s being called a revolution, with millions in the streets and the Iranian regime potentially on the brink of collapse, prompting Supreme Leader Khamenei to blame Trump.

Finally, in Jewish history, looking back at January 15th, we note several significant events. In 588 BCE, Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon laid siege to Jerusalem under King Zedekiah, an event that would last for over two years. Later, in 69 CE, Servius Sulpicius Galba, the 6th Emperor of Rome, was killed by the Praetorian Guard. This period of anarchy in Rome, which saw four emperors in one year, occurred during the Jewish Revolt against the Romans. Sadly, the Jewish people are said to have squandered this precious year-long reprieve to strengthen their position or negotiate peace, instead falling into internal conflict, with religious extremists gaining dominance.
