Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for March 20, 2026.

Today in the U.S., the Navy faces significant challenges in minesweeping capabilities despite years of warnings, while federal judges are increasingly speaking out amidst physical threats and criticism. President Trump’s war against Iran maintains strong support among MAGA voters, though rising costs and gas prices could test that loyalty. Meanwhile, TSA workers are once again without pay during a government shutdown, and Senator Markwayne Mullin faced sharp criticism during his confirmation hearing for Homeland Security secretary, though he offered a slightly softer tone on immigration. On the world stage, Japan navigated a high-stakes meeting in Washington but still harbors long-term concerns about U.S. partnership. A U.S. military intervention in Cuba, following Venezuela, would likely be far more difficult. Sadly, Iraq’s newfound peace and prosperity have been shattered by the ongoing Iran war, pulling at old divides.

Regarding prophecy news, a historic heat wave is gripping the U.S. this March, potentially setting all-time monthly records in over 140 cities from California to Missouri, with lingering impacts expected into the summer. In the Middle East, Iran’s new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed that “murderers” must pay for the killing of top security chief Ali Larijani, who died in an Israeli strike. This comes as Iranian missile shrapnel recently fell on holy sites in Jerusalem’s Old City, including the Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, following interceptions across central Israel. These incidents highlight Iran’s escalating doctrine, as Tehran targets the entire Middle East, aiming to project power and divert attention from its own internal vulnerabilities and growing domestic unrest.

Finally, looking back at Jewish history for March 21st, we recall significant events. In 456 BCE, the convocation summoned by Ezra concerning intermarriage concluded. Later, in 629, Byzantine Emperor Heraclius marched into Jerusalem, initially supported by Jewish inhabitants with a promise of amnesty after their previous alliance with the Persians. Tragically, local priests convinced the Emperor to revoke his promise, leading to the massacre of hundreds of Jews and the flight of thousands to Egypt, effectively ending much of the rich Jewish life in Galilee and Judea. Much later, in 1144, what would become the first act in the first Blood Libel in England began, concerning William of Norwich.
