The Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff Arrives in Israel
The Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, General Mikhail Kostarakos, arrived today – Sunday, December 9th, 2012 – for his first visit to Israel in his current position. He is arriving as a guest of the Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Binyamin “Benny” Gantz.
General Kostarakos will be greeted at the Rabin Base with an honor guard of ground, air force and naval troops, featuring both the Israeli and Greek national anthems.
Over the course of the visit, General Kostarakos will meet with Lieutenant General Gantz in order to discuss military cooperation and shared security challenges. In addition, the General will participate in a panel alongside senior IDF officers who will brief him about security and strategic issues. The general will also meet with the Chair of the National Security Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Major General (res.) Amos Gilad.
General Kostarakos will visit various sites in Israel, including the city of Sderot, an IAF base, and will pay tribute at the “Yad va-Shem” Holocaust museum in Jerusalem.
