Guilt

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake;
And I will not remember your sins.” - Isaiah 43:25

I think there is one thing that a lot of us can relate to…and that one thing is: guilt. Guilt means “feelings of culpability when a law is broken or an offense takes place.”

Growing up, one of my parents’ rules for me was to not watch WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) because it made me mean…meaner than I already was, so my parents had a pretty good reason for telling me not to watch that stuff. Well, as mischievous as a growing child was, I was disobedient and I was caught one time and that’s all it took.

In Scripture, there are 600+ laws to keep. The Ten Commandments were written by God through Moses to help the people be “good people” but then, man complicates things and creates 600 more laws.

I look at the Old Testament and see every rule and think how hard it must of been to live in that day and time. Let’s be honest…man cannot keep every law. God is clear in His Word that “if you break one of them, you break them all” (James 2:10), so why even try, right?

You mess up and there is a voice that always comes in to tell you to just give up and not go on. That’s what you call guilt. We all deal with it. We all can’t get past it. It’s like a gnat that always bugs you 24/7. But, growing up, making mistake after mistake, seeing God take a broken home and making it into a godly home, I believe there is something…SOMEONE bigger out there than guilt and His name is Jesus.

Just like me when I was younger, I had rules to live by. We have rules to live by now, but there is no way that we can keep them all. There is no possible way for us to live right according to the Old Testament’s laws. That is why we need Jesus. He came not to abolish the law, but the fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). You need Jesus more than you think. We don’t need another program to draw people to our church. We don’t need another preacher to come in for a revival to speak another word to us. What we need is Jesus. We, as the Church…NOT A DENOMINATION…BUT A CHURCH…Baptist, Methodist, Church of God, Church of Christ, Catholic, or whatever you are, need to get back to the basics…JESUS!

Don’t let the enemy guilt you and make you think you’re not worth it. If you weren’t worth it, God wouldn’t of sent His Son to die for you. Let us put down the judging gavel and pick up God’s Word. Let God be the judge over His people. Stop worrying about the speck in your neighbor’s eye, when you have a log in your own eye (Matthew 7:3). Don’t get me wrong, there are consequences for your sin. Every single one of them. That’s if you don’t repent and ask God for forgiveness. I’m also not saying “go do what you want and then ask God to forgive you, then do the same thing the next day.” That’s what you call taking God’s grace for granted and that’s a big no no (Galatians 2:21).

Today, guilt might be at your front door trying to pound it down. You might be so heavy burdened with guilt from your past, that you have forgotten what exactly Jesus did for you on the cross. Whatever it is, give it to God. Sin isn’t worth it. It never is and never has been. There is a way that has no condemnation and His name is Jesus and He died for your sins. Yes, YOU!

Jesus blots out sin and remembers them not. Now go. Be the light of world and the salt of the Earth! Whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
