Lee University Symphony – March 24, 2014

The program will include such works as Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances,” Mozart’s “Symphony #31,” Griffes’ “Poem for Flute and Orchestra,” and the final two movements of Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Cellos in G Minor.”

The concert will be conducted by Maestro Robert Bernhardt, artist-in-residence at Lee, along with Sarah Pearson, graduate assistant.

“This is one of the Symphony’s most adventurous concerts, with compositions spanning nearly three centuries of great music,” said Bernhardt. “The orchestra’s musicians are sometimes front-and-center, and at other times, cast as sensitive accompanists.”

The soloists are winners of the recent Lee Student Concerto Competition and include: Chelsea Davidson, soprano; Logan Fox, cello; Lamprini Lindeman, mezzo soprano; Kristiana McCombs, cello; Leigha Nilson, flute; Man-Ling Pai, piano; and Wan-Lin Yu, piano.

Bernhardt joined the Lee faculty in 2011 after 19 years as Music Director and Conductor of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, where he continues to serve in the role of Music Director Emeritus. He is also the Principal Pops Conductor of the Louisville Orchestra and an active guest conductor throughout North America.
