First off, ‘confessing, repenting and accepting Jesus Christ’ doesn’t have a thing to do with our gospel, which is to believe that the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ was all that was necessary to secure our salvation.
Secondly, we’re not going to be ‘like’ Christ by any effort we make, nor are we called to be. In fact, our apostle never mentions the word disciple nor discipline.
One of my spiritual mentors told me this about his own conversion. When he came to Christ, he wanted to be forgiven of his sin. But after his new birth, being saved from sin didnt feel like enough. He found himself wanting transformation. He wanted to be more like Jesus. He wanted to please the Father out of love.
We need to grow in many ways. In holiness, righteousness, truth, and yes discipleship and more. These things work together to allow us to become more like Christ.
Be careful you don’t point to works after salvation! Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit!!
