As a Christian, are Kosher and Halal meats okay to purchase?

Food is food unless the term on a package means something more to you. I don’t look for those words on packages because I’m not Jewish or Muslim.

Kosher certainly. Be careful with Halal however. First, it is physically worse for you with increased stress horomones. Secondly you may cause brothers to stumble.

So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world” and that “There is no God but one.” For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “Lords”), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols? So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.

Eat it unless it becomes a stumbling block for your brother. The other “gods” aren’t gods or real. They have no actual power.

What is Halal ? The Bible instructs us to abstain from things sacrificed unto idol.
Halal products are derived from animals and/or poultry that have been prepared according to Islamic law under the following directions and statement: animals are slaughtered upon utterance of the Islamic prayer Bismillah. “In the name of Allah – Allah is the Greatest/Bismillahi Allahu Akbar”. -
Halal!! I don’t know but Christian should eat kosher meat, health law are not done away with; one can’t eat already dead carcass, road kill, Mice, scavenger animals, pork, rabbit. These are unhealthy. These are health laws not laws given to Jews to annoy them.

You should investigate halal. It is a certification, money goes to places you’d probably not like to fund. The methods and process of slaughter are inhumane. Far more than meet the eye.

Absolutely. Except for Kosher hotdogs. Once you eat a kosher hotdog, you will never be able to eat another hot dog again.??

Kosher is good, but halal can never be trusted. Some or most halal practitioners aren’t ethically as devout as you would expect
Further, halal doesn’t cover water creatures like land animals. You can eat shark, lobster, shrimp, dolphin, crab, crocodile, frogs, snails, etc. Land animals that can be eaten is camel and almost anything else with hoofs. All types of birds not predatory is allowed. You can eat horse, but not a donkey. Mohammed forbid eating donkey. Some Muslim groups also avoid horse for the connection, as well as mule, but lawfully they can be eaten.
Everything on land with fangs is forbidden.
So. If you don’t like parts of certain allowed animals in your halal foods then don’t ever trust it. It most definitely is not kosher. -

But what is alarming is where the halal funds are channeled to. It sponsors qurans, mosques, imams, jihadis (suicide bombers) and halal facilities, which is exclusively for muslim workers only.
Further, halal means a prayer is said to an idol in the kaaba in Mecca and the food is dedicated to that idol allah. -
Jesus is more concern with our hearts, than the food we eat. You can eat as long as your conscience is clear and as long as the people around you will not stumble by eating those food, don’t be an instrument for them to commit sin by judging your actions

As we prepare for Heaven we need to realize that there won’t be the eating of any flesh there……you need to nurture the desire for a plant based diet now or else you won’t be happy in Heaven…..?

Rabbinic Kosher doesn’t really matter.
Biblical Kosher absolutely matters.
Meaning: The land animal you eat must have cloven hooves and chew cud. Cows, sheep, goats, deer, etc. Pigs have cloven hooves but do not chew cud. Rabbits chew cud but do not have cloven hooves. You are not to even recognize these animals as food, just as you likely do not recognize rats or earthworms as food, even though they’re perfectly safe and edible.
Animals from the water must have fins and scales. Most fish do. Catfish and dolphins have fins but do not have scales. Squid, Crabs, lobster, other shellfish have neither fins nor scales.
Flying animals: you may eat them all except the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture, the kite, any kind of falcon, any kind of raven,
the ostrich, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe, and the bat.Insects: They must have hind limbs for hopping. The grasshopper, cricket, locust, etc.

Why this debate on meat…. so are you saying someone who take pork and other such meat will lose his salvation?

Sure! No problem with it! God told Peter that everything was clean and Jesus said as much to the Pharisees!

This is answered in 1 Corinthians 8. So the basics are, if you can, in good conscience, eat halal or kosher meats, then go for it. If, however, it violates your conscience and/or causes a brethren to stumble, avoid it by all means

Thanks for all your comments everyone. I was curious to see where people stood. I was raised in a Christian cult that followed the Old Testament food laws. I now follow the New Testament food laws. Kosher meats were never a problem for me but the Halal I stumble over a bit for some of the reasons mentioned.
It being associated with prayers to Allah etc. Hadn’t thought of it “supporting” their faith or any terrorist activity.
Meh. It’s not a salvation thing—just curious.

What goes in you cannot defile you. Are you eating it because you’re trying to keep your spirit “clean” with old dietary laws? You’re likely not sinning, but you’re not doing anything good for yourself either. Are you doing it for a diet or because you just happen to have some food considered kosher? You’re fine.

As a christian in Egypt only halal food is available so i don’t think that eating halal food is wrong. What goes into man’s mouth does not make him unclean , but what comes out of his mouth is what makes him unclean.

If I eat Halal without knowing it, who cares. When I walk into a takeaway food shop and see signs that say that all the meat is halal, I don’t order anything. If there are no signs, I order. For me, it means nothing, but when they see us eating Halal food not caring that it has be prayed over first, it shows them that we don’t really take YHWH seriously.

I personally would not eat halal if I had the option. Apparently the animal is still alive and struggles while the blood is drained from its body… =(
Not sure if kosher is similar in that regard or not.
Either way, I’m not against eating meat, but I try to buy cruelty free whenever possible.

If you feel it is not in line with your faith- don’t eat it. If you feel that God has dominion over all and nothing like that can harm you, it’s fine for you to eat it. If it offends someone you are eating with don’t eat it.

For meat to be halal, the animal must be slaughtered in a specific way, which includes an islamic prayer. Doesn’t sound as something Christians should be touching tbh

It’s no big deal. It just means the meat has been blessed by a rabbi, or in Islamic tradition, killed by hand & blessed by the slaughter man with an Islamic prayer.

Paul covers this pretty thoroughly. Let’s assume the worst oh, that these meats are offered to idols, you are not to ask if the meat was offered to idols, but if that information is volunteered you are to refuse. If a Muslim says that this meat was blessed in the name of Allah, which unless he was actually trying to educate you, would probably only be sharing that information see how you would respond, the question should be “Do we worship the same God?” If he says “Yes,” then receive it. If he was sincere, then you’ve done nothing to promote idolatry, because the intention is there, albeit misguided. If he was insincere, then that is on him.
Concerning kosher, Jesus ate kosher, so unless you have something against the lifestyle of the Messiah, the perfect model for how to live, you shouldn’t have any problems with it. -

If someone religiously blesses food by an authority that is not Jesus Christ, I would see that blessing as having no power; there would be no authority behind the blessing. If that person then wanted to sell me that food in exchange for a fair price, my question would be: Is it going to taste good?

Go for it. Whether we buy from a place that uses foods to worship other gods, it means nothing as a believer. An idol is nothing in this world to us as a believer of our one true God the Father, and Christ Jesus. If your conscience tells you it feels wrong, then don’t do it.
“Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but evil for the man who eats with offense.” Romans 14:20
God made everything. All the things that make food he created and therefore is pure for us to eat. Only if we consciously convict ourselves that it is wrong to eat it for the name of the Lord, then don’t eat it. Or if you know it will cause another Christian, who is weak in faith, to stumble because he believes its wrong for me to eat it.

The only things we are not allowed to eat as christians are things offered to idols, animals that have been strangled or drowned, or consuming blood. Everything else is good to go. Eating kosher is generally healthier and the meats are better quality on the stores though. Just my lpnion on that last one

Eat anything you want. The only governance of what we eat is wisdom, not laws or a form of spiritual superiority because of something we stick in our belly!
