As I travel about the country and conduct meetings in the various churches, including the CoG, I find that many ministers in the Pentecostal churches miss so much of our total reliance upon the Holy Ghost. All the Church Growth programs, the “How To’s”, and “What’s Wrong With Our Churches” seminars fail to understand the tremendous need of the Church for the presence and manifestation of the power of the Holy Ghost. CoG minister, Rev. R. J. Varnell makes a powerful statement that is so relevant in today’s church world in his sermon entitled, “THE HOLY SPIRIT AS OUR COMFORTER.” Regarding the Holy Ghost, Rev. Varnell says, “WITH HIS ABIDING PRESENCE, CHURCHES GROW. WITHOUT IT, THEY DIE.” There is much to be learned from those CoG ministers who have gone before us.

I agree that without the Holy Ghost present in our hearts & lives there is no Holy Ghost in churches! So God cant move unless he has a vessel!

“For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” — …all deceivableness of unrighteousness.” — “having a form godliness but denying the power thereof.” “…eyes full of adultery, for they cannot cease from sin; for they receive not the love of the truth.” and “who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” We are to be ever “partakers of divine nature” and “His holiness.” What I’m trying to say in response to what has been said is this. — Our vice is suspect but our ‘goodness’ is a deceiver which denies any need – of the power of godliness. The first verse above contrast the “wrath” of man verses the righteousness of God. But ‘good’, moral, religious people are somewhat and/or totally unsuspecting that the “wrath” of man is derived from the ‘goodness’ of man rooted in the carnal, freshly sin nature! Mind you that at the end of our goodness apart from Christ is wrath! That’s much the reason there is so much anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, grudging against brothers, lack of mercy, jealousy, envy, provoking one another —- a form of godliness rooted in sin nature ‘goodness’. Yeah that goodness that would give the shirt off one’s back – if not rooted in the divine nature — is a deception and false ‘anointing’ — and at the end of man’s so called ‘nice’ is ‘vice’ – wrath! For essential reason Paul stated, “I will glory save (only) in the Cross.” “… foolishness to those that are perishing but it is the power of God unto us who are being saved.” Many say they want the power but ignore the Cross and the words of Christ. We must follow Christ, by faith die with Christ, rest with Christ and receive His resurrection to newness of godliness and eternal life! Our vice AND our ‘nice’ respectively must be denied and meet death on the Cross so we might follow Him. Our goodness produces a false and deceptive ‘power’ or ‘anointing’ –being fleshly and carnal. This deception of ‘goodness’ and powerless form of godliness not only robs the pulpit of conversions and/or personal victory! The Holy Spirit works exclusively thru the Cross ie the surrender of one self of one’s own vice n nice while receiving the goodness/ finished work of Christ. People who unknowingly go about to establish their own righteousness — invariably religiously “dispise others”. They might exhibit an ‘anointing’ in the pulpit, singing or music – possibly an ‘utterance of tongues’ but are powerless in the car, in the home and especially the internet! ‘Good’ men apart from the Cross and true Spirit is no match for the power of sin behind one’s so called goodness! It robs the pulpit of saving power, godly living and sweet fellowship. How many ‘good’ men and I mean good men ignorant of this truth find themselves ‘powerless’ when it comes to internet porn etc. Those that have been raised in church and have a reputation of ‘goodness’ suffer the most! We need the power of the Spirit in our pulpits. And it only comes thru the Cross resulting in the power and anointing of His goodness, godliness, eternal life ie divine nature. Christ IN you the hope (power) of glory.”! “…been made partakers of divine nature.” Our goodness always fails then denies it, ever learning but unable to acknowledge the truth! Our goodness is actually all about the ‘worship’, significance, promotion and protection of self whereas spirit n truth worship is a new nature/creature — all about worshiping God as a divine nature child of God! Bring the Cross back then the power to save to the uttermost will make a difference!!! Selah777

The reason there is no power in churches of all movements they seem to think God has changed but he has not, our leaders have left the old time worship and have adopted the cruise o matic entertainment, form of worship, blowing smoke, dancing, worldly music, Don’t need the old red book hymnal with the songs of Zion having to do with the blood, or the cross. dress like a bunch of idiots from the pot smokers dope heads on the street ,do. women wont ware enough clothes cover their boob’s and legs, and cut their hair off making them look like butches , men think it is cute to have their hair all the way down to their hips, crouch of their pants down to there knees. like prisoners do that want another man. then wonder why there is no power in the churches, and churches are closing all over America, because the attendance is dropping off, there is nothing going on to draw folks. We look like the world act like the world ,talk like the world , and are like the world, most have a form of godliness, but denying the power an truth thereof. and don’t want old preachers that preach hell is hot, and waiting for the lost to be cast into it, folks better wake up and get right with God There is no excuse for the church being in the mess we have gotten into.
