Church of God General Overseer A. J. Tomlinson was born on September 22, 1865, near Westfield, Indiana. This photo with his wife, Mary Jane Taylor, was taken on their wedding day, April 24, 1889. Tomlinson met W. F. Bryant and other North Carolina holiness believers during his travels as a home missionary to the mountains. He joined the Holiness Church at Camp Creek in Bryant’s home on June 13, 1903, and immediately became pastor of that congregation. In 1909 the General Assembly selected him as general moderator—renamed general overseer the next year.
