Former Church of God General Overseer Zeno Chandler Tharp was born on October 26, 1896, in Traverse City, Michigan. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Florida, where they were instrumental in developing the Church of God there. Before serving as general overseer (1952-1956), he was president of Bible Training School, now Lee University (1935 to 1944), and on the editorial committee for the “Church Hymnal,” affectionately known as the “Red Back Hymnal.”
