“…they called the cross on which he died a ‘tree'”.

Stott, John. The Cross of Christ . InterVarsity Press. Kindle Edition.

One of the interesting facts about early apostolic preaching that is often overlooked is that the apostles referred to the Cross as a “tree”.

There can only be one reason and it is found in Deuteronomy 21:22-23.

22 “If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God. Deuteronomy 21:22-23

The ONE THING for today: Why!? Why, oh why would the Apostles add insult to injury by describing Jesus as cursed by God? Good Friday cannot be fully understood until one knows the answer to that question.

Acts 5:30; 10:39; 13:29.
