Therw is a segment of Christians who use the term for Decision Theology Christian usually in altar call where comment up front and declare faith with great vehemence. Others see it as a reference to what Jesus told Nicodemus he has to be born again by believe the Jesus is the promised Messiah. Read it for your self in John chapter three about the story.

That means you believe that Jesus died on the cross and three days later he rose again. Nicodemus was an educator of religion but he didn’t understand how a man can be born again. He ask the question can he enter back into his mothers womb. Jesus re lied you must be born of the spirit

This is just my humble opinion but being born again means to be made a new creation for Christ that will change you from the inside out. The Bible gives the evidence of being born again and tells us to examine ourselves to confirm that we are in the faith.
The evidence for this is as follows:
The Bible gives clear evidence to believers to assure them that they are indeed a child of God. 1 Cor 2:12
1 a changed life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. If you are what you were then you ain’t2 a chastised life Hebrews 12:5-8
Hebrews 12:7-8 (KJV) 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
3 a child of God is indwelled by the Spirit of God. This is the basis for the rest.
1 Corinthians 2:12 (KJV)
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.Romans 8:9 (KJV)
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.Romans 8:16 (KJV) The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
4 a child of God cannot dwell continually in sin and be satisfied and happy.
1 John 3:9 (KJV)
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.5 a child of God will begin to understand the scriptures
1 Corinthians 2:12-15 (KJV) 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
6 the child of God will be drawn to God’s house to fellowship with fellow believers
7 the child of God will have an abiding love for fellow Christians
1 John 3:14 (KJV)
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not [his] brother abideth in death.Of course there could be more. But if you do not have these qualities in your life, I pray you will work out your salvation with fear and trembling

But all this means nothing but gobbly goop to someone who is seeking and is not versed in “Christianese”.

Taken from Jesus conversation with Nicodemus. Personally I guess it is only useful when talking to cradle Catholics who never actually made a conscious decision to give their lives to Jesus.

It’s not a logical concept, it’s a spiritual rebirth. An complete change of mind and of interests. It happens because God’s Holy Spirit seals you.
-
Regeneration is a new birth,
180 degree turn from your old ways,
it takes a miracle of God to be born again -
It is when a sinner accepts Jesus Christ completely and understands the price he paid to save us. The Holy Spirit washes over that persons spirit and you’re never the same again.
-
I think the origin of this phrase was an attempt by those who had an actual conversion experience to explain that they were not just nominal Christians who professed christ but lived like everyone else
-
The term is born from above in contrast to us being born of a woman down here. Both are new life down here are parents are human the other our parent is god the father
