I am just wondering what others believe baptism by fire means. Does it mean that fire is immersed in water? Or does it mean that something is immersed in fire? Can we interpret that the word baptize could also just mean immersed not immersed in water?

I believe that part happens after we die.. For believers our works will be tried by fire.. For unbelievers they are thrown into the fire

I never got the fire others got. In dream few months back I prayed for the Holy Spirit and I felt electricity through my body, but I have been a Christian since long. I often feel touched by God that makes me worship Him. I don’t know about this term baptism of fire.

My understanding is it comes from the verse Matthew 3:11. referring, to the extraordinary gifts of the Spirit, to be bestowed on the disciples on the day of Pentecost, of which the cloven tongues, like as of fire, which appeared unto them, and sat upon them, were the symbols; which was an instance of the great power and grace of Christ, and of his exaltation at the Father’s right hand. So when people were talking in tongues, a great power came upon them.

Jesus baptizes the redeemed in the Holy Spirit,

The baptism of the Spirit is a baptism of the Holy Spirit & fire. One of things scripture call this experience is the gift of God.
Act 2:1-4 KJ2000 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them separated tongues like as of FIRE, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
2Ti 1:6-7 ISV 6 For this reason, I am reminding you to fan into FLAMES the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and self-discipline.

God is a consuming fire who burns off everything in us that is not really us. I do think everyone is eventually baptized with fire but I think it’s gradual and that most believers haven’t experienced it that much. I think that it requires a radical intimacy with God.

1.The Holy Spirit is described as a fire.
2. Baptism of water is equal to the forgiveness of sins and repentance. Which is lieral water.
3. Baptism of fire is being filled with the Holy Spirit(figuratively yet literal because we cannot see a Spirit being or such a phenomenon). In which, He makes you Holy and Righteous without any requirement of actual baptism of water because in the book of Acts the Disciples were filled with Holy Spirit without getting baptized in literal water.

Baptism of fire is damnation and baptism of the Holy Spirit is salvation. The passage in Matthew 3 is very clear it’s about judgment and Jesus being the judge. For those who would bring up to Acts, read it again. Tongues LIKE that of fire. Not tongues OF fire. This idea that the baptism of fire is a “filling of the spirit” is a new thought and it’s dangerous.

We believe that the baptism by fire is the giving of the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 19:2-6 shows Paul giving the Holy Ghost to converts by the laying on of hands after they have been baptized by immersion as Christ was.

First, let’s define those two words. Baptism is to immerse with water. Fire is to burn things up, therefore acting as a judgment, so baptism with fire means to be judged by the immersion of His word!

Jesus said you must be born again in John 3:16, read the chapter. Man is born of water, but we must be born of the Spirit also. Nicodemus had difficulty understanding. The bottom line, what part of your human birth did you play a part in. Nothing. The same with God’s Salvation, what part did you play? Nothing. Baptism from the Holy Spirit is the foundation when you accepted Jesus as Savior. Baptism is you identity in Jesus Christ the you are a follower.

Context reveals what was meant. John was warning those that came to him without any fruit of repentance. Jesus will baptize those that come to Him with the Holy Spirit, and the others with fire. You don’t want to be those where the axe is laid at the root to be cut down and burned. You don’t want the fire John was talking about.
