Through heretical missionary work ?
-
It started in America (sadly), went to Africa, got even more perverted, and spread from there

The ethiopian eunuch and Philip in the desert.
Theres churches in africa that claim they trace directly back to this. -
Define start. How did it get there or the beginning of the movement there? There have always, always been Pentecostal churches, but a resurgence of the Pentecostal movement and revival began at the beginning of the last century

This is a complex question as there are a variety of groups that are classified as Pentecostal that started in a variety of ways.
Britain- from Methodists, where they left wanting a Puritan-like focus on the Holy Spirit and not just human “methods”
Canada; from Anglicans, from people who were poor and who disdained the Church of England that seemed corrupt and for the rich proper people
United States: this is a very conflated area. Most notably you can trace foundings to nondenominationals… to people who thought themselves special. This is why US Pentecostals are typically far less Orthodox in their teachings than global counterparts
…and so on

From my textbook: “Assemblies of God History, Missions, & Governance”, first section,
The Crest of RevivalAs the twentieth century approached, believers everywhere were praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Preachers warned that the time for evangelism was almost gone. Mission leaders urged prayer for a “special manifestation of the life and power of God the Holy Spirit.” (Walker 1907, 280). After the turn of the century, many Christians believed their prayers had been answered. The great 1904 Welch revival produced over 100,000 converts. Other revivals occurred in Australia (1902), South Africa (1904), India (1905), Korea (1906), United States (1906), and Manchuria (1908). The great end-times outpouring of the Holy Spirit had begun.
It doesn’t give specifics here I will have to do some more searching if you want them. -
Acts Chapter 2 is how it started ?
-
It started in acts. Then the great falling away happened around the third century. Before Constantine the church grew and was pure under severe persecution. After this time the emperor made it the state religion because they couldn’t stop it . Once it was legal then the pagan priest quickly joined it for gain sake . Most were not born again, they brought their pagan ideas into the church and stopped preaching the gospel. After a short time the church was more pagan than Christian. Even verses or prophecies like “they will abstain from marriage”, worship a false Christ (pope) . Destroy the holy people etc…….. We’re fulfilled by the Roman Catholic Church. Scripture declares that the church would go into the wilderness . During this time that is what happened. During the thirteenth + centuries the bible began to be translated into the common people’s language. This allowed for true believers to revolt against the corruption of the “church”. Eventually reformation , restoration and eventually faith for the in dwelling of the Holy Ghost and all the truths of Gods kingdom to shine once again. Little by little , here a little there a little. Line upon line and precept upon precept.

It started in the early 1900’s but roots can be traced earlier. It evolved out of revival meetings and emphasized experience and emotion in an new way. Be weary of comments that make Pentecostalism the one true church or a great return to form. There was a renewal aspect, but it’s very much a new thing.

For an historical and academic approach , that’s also fair, and non inflammatory, check out Ryan Reeves on YouTube , they are lectures from Gordon Cromwell Seminary. https://youtu.be/LzT3pRu2FkY

Pentecostalism is 100 years old. It is a new age movement and bears little resemblance to authentic Biblical Christianity. It’s essentially voodoo Christianity.

Research William J Seymour and the Azusa Street Revival.

You must pray and fast, to free your hesitation to evangelised other.
