Most cults start with a āprophetā or āprophetessā receiving divine revelation so I would say it depends on how much authority the individual Adventist gives Ellen White.

If they believe in anything other than being saved by faith in Christ alone then they are a cult. Its not saved by faith in Christ plus obey the Sabbath but its Christ alone! Sometimes i think their hope is in the Sabbath more than Christ. Pray their eyes may be opened to the truth of God’s word and that the veil of the Old Testamemt be lifted from their eyes that they may see and know Christ fulfilled the law became a curse for us. Everyday is a Sabbath day now through our relationship with Jesus Christ

I can only answer to what I know is fact. If youāre referring to the fact that they honor Saturday as the sabbath day, according to our calendar Saturday is the 7th day of the week. Sunday is the 1st.
Why do others hold Sunday as the sabbath? Because the Papacy changed to declare Sunday as the sabbath. Itās a change instituted by the Catholic Church.
Here is everyoneās saving grace, then there should be no more debate about the sabbath. -

Some think so as some of there doctrines are so intertwined with the prophecies of Ellen G. White and are clearly unbiblical. Walter Martin, author of Kingdom of the Cults, concluded that they are not in that they hold to all of the cardinal doctrines of the historic Christian church. But they are fringe.

Hi. I became a Seventh Day Adventist because it’s the most biblically based faith I could find. Not cultic at all. Unlike other churches we are to read our Bibles and bring our preachers in check if they are making up their own doctrines opposite of clear scripture. Most churches I’m familiar with have pastors just making up their own interpretation of scripture and some not even using scripture. So no not a cult. The founders teach that one must study the bible prayerfully for one’s self.
The core of the faith is:“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” Rev. 14:12

Ok. If people are questioning the truthfulness of a denomination as maybe a cult, we’re not going to trust the website of said possible cult. I don’t know if cult is quite right, but Ellen White was a false prophet and she teaches clear heresies. Instead of having us look at the advertisement of the church, try reading up on the accusations, and see if Jesus himself would accept or reject these teachings. Do they align with Scripture or not. Most Christians seem to see they do not. Maybe you have some soul searching to do.

I used to date a girl that is SDA…I attended numerous of their classes and teachings….that in turn made me dig deeper into scripture to find the truth and I did…SDA doctrines are mostly false. They wrote “The clear word bible” that changed scripture so much from the Holy Bible it is shocking…but they will not openly show or talk about it. Most of their doctrines come from Ellen G White and they will not say so…rather saying it is God’s word…Ellen was a false prophetess cause none of her predictions came true and also later they found that a lot of the visions she claimed she had was written in books found in her library…proving that some or majority of it was made up

They are focused on old testament law equality to Jesus. God created christianity because no man can be perfect. Only Jesus made the way for us.

I donāt think it matters whether one make one day holier than another. The important question is whether the SDA believes in the redemption work of Christ. If they do then they are saved.

Many people seem to believe the lie that the SDA Church wants them to believe; that the main or only difference between Seventh Day Adventists and Christians is that they worship on Saturday, and Christians worship on Sunday. This is nothing more than a ruse to distract you from their list of fundamental beliefs.
7th Day Adventists believe in and teach many false doctrines, including but not limited to:
1) the soul, spirit and body can never be separated.
2) Soul sleep
3) Annihilationism
4) Hell/the lake of fire is not eternal
5) Multiple false prophecies pertaining to the second coming in the 1800’s by William Miller and Ellen G white.I could go on, but this is more than enough to separate them from the TRUE Christian Church.
Seriously, do some research online about William Miller and Ellen G. White’s false teachings/prophecies. It’s very eye-opening. It’s becoming very apparent that people who attend SDA churches don’t even know what their own religion teaches, OR they are intentionally hiding it, while trying to deceive people. Either way, the SDA Church believes and teaches doctrines that are completely unbiblical. Which ultimately gets them categorized as a cult; and rightfully so!

They believe Jesus is Michael the archangel. They are very much a works based faith. Rather than believing The Bible above all else they put the writings of their false prophet, Ellen White above all else. They may not be a cult, but according to The Bible, they are not saved.

What makes it a cult people??? Really??? The believe in the authority of scripture and the Holy Trinity. The abundance of Christs death, burial, and ressurection. To also mention, a war vet by the name of Desomnd T. Doss was a 7th Day Adventist. He saved over 70 lives under heavy fire without firing a single bullet. He gave all credit to God! Him saving those lives is nothing short of divine intervention. They are not a cult! Might as well call Calvinists and Armenians cult parties then…..

Yes because you can not read in the bible that the early beleivers are called seventh day adventist, besides Jesus and his apostle never preached that a man must be a SDA. The early believers are only called Christians

One of my seventh-day Adventists friend, emphasize the Sabbath every Saturday, and in salvation you need Jesus but to be completely saved, it depends on your works and in following the 10 commandments.
Some of their leaders I’ve met says, they didn’t fail to follow the 10 commandments. That’s why as his friends I want hin to know the truth about salvation in Christ Jesus. -

It may have been many years ago. For the most part, I believe they have moved into mainstream Christianity. I do not think that the SDA is accurate on all finer points of theology, but who is. We all have some blind spots!

I find them cult-like. They are so obsessed with Genesis, Daniel and Revelation, aren’t they. Not exactly the most pertinent books of the bible.
Adventism is a home-made religion laden with rules about Sabbath observance, diet, and other lifestyle issues. It is based largely on the visions of a strange woman.

Iām a Seventh Day Adventist. As such Iām a Christian who believes the Ten Commandments that Jesus reiterated are valid for Christians, including the seventh day Sabbath, the day Jesus said He is Lord of (The laws nailed to the cross were the sacrificial laws, that pointed to the Lamb of God.) I believe every commandment is equally valid and are fulfilled with love (Love God and love your neighbour summarise the Ten Commandments).
As an SDA I also believe in the Advent, the return of Jesus the Christ. There are of course other beliefs; feel free to question me!

Christian theologians and apologists are divided over whether to place the Seventh-day Adventist Church under the category of a cult or not. But that when they say, “I am saved by grace through faith,” they mean that it is faith along with following the commandments that guarantees eternal life. These commandments are the Mosaic Law given by God to Moses, including the big Ten Commandments. There were 613 laws under the Mosaic Law and one of them is the prohibition of eating pork. The law was given to point people to Christ so that they will be aware of what is sin and what is right or wrong. The law was perfect and just but it can not make you perfect or righteous. It was given to point people to a savior because no one can obey all those laws not even the Ten Commandments. Romans 6:14 states that we are no longer under the law but under grace. We are save by grace through faith not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). We are no longer bound by the law. Here are among the many verses: Romans 7:6

Seventh-day Adventist has major deviations from the written Word of God in the Bible. Their prohibition of eating pork is one of the major deviation from the Bible. The Bible says, “Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone to stumble.” And besides, the Bible states that believing in Jesus alone will guarantee a person to enter heaven (Romans 14:20; Acts 16:31). Their insistent on obeying the law nullify the grace of God. Galatians 2:21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness[a] were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. Even if the theologians and apologists are divided whether to put under the category of a cult, I still believe they are religious cult because of their major deviations and contradictory beliefs and practices to the above verses in the Bible. -
Bill and Ken / Here are the errors you stated, which I hope you will look into. I wish I could take more time. Just want you to know first that I am a Baptist pastor and I used to believe and preach just what you say until I looked into it. I have never been to an Adventist meeting of any kind nor read their literature. What i got was from honest bible study. I ask you to look into these things. (1)You say “what purpose does it serve to simply annihilate individuals? If that be the case then is better to be an atheist and cease “to be” in the end for there is no more pain in “no existence”. No longer matters what we do.” If you look at what I said, it will show that you are deliberately ignoring what I already posted to you, and you have built up a straw man argument to argue against what i never said. Here is exactly what I already sent to you “We do not teach “there is no hell” as you said… We just don’t believe it is eternal conscious torment. The lost will be judged according to their works and then punished for a period of time ( longer for some than for others) but then eventually annihilated”. (2) Ken said, “The bible uses those terms (perish, destruction, death) as an ongoing thing. Also there is a chasm between the righteous & unrighteous. If they no longer existed, there would be no need for a chasm. It is so obvious that in the great majority of uses in every context, it is exactly the opposite of what you said. Perish, destruction, death, are almost NEVER presented as an ongoing thing. They are final. It is eternal destruction, not eternal destroying. Eternal judgment, not eternal judging. Burning up, not burning forever. The consequences and the results are forever, but not the process. (3) What Ken said about the “chasm”…you can look into that for yourself in Luke16. First, the word is hades, not gehenna. So it is not hell. Secondly, yes there is a chasm in hades, but nothing ever about a gulf between the saved and the lost in the eternal state. Third, the time is not the end of the age after the final resurrection, for he still has five brother that are still alive. . I hope you guys will search out something to see if it is Scriptural before you just say something that is merely your assumption or what you have been taught. I do understand…I believed and preached what you said for years, because it was our tradition…but it is not Biblical.

Colin Spotswood thanks for putting yourself out there. Iām not SDA and wonāt pretend to know much about it other than the Saturday Sabbath thing. I think interdenominational discussion is good, so thanks for opening the door for that when you knew it could get some not-nice responses.
