Islands Don’t Float

If I had to live on a desert island, and somebody gave me a chicken, there’s no way I’d kill it – I’d call it Henry and make it my friend. __Anita Dobson

G.K. Chesterton was once asked what the one thing he’d want if he was stranded on an island.

His answer was, “Why, a book on boat building, of course!”

I find it interesting that Chesterton wanted to get off the island.  He was not interested in reading books on how to survive on an island or how to cope with strandedness. No, it never occurred to him that he had to remain stranded.

Why was that?

He saw himself being somewhere else.

So…

Where do you see yourself being?

Remember, where you are and where you see yourself being does not have to be the same.

However, it is important to remember that getting from where you are to where you want to be will require building a boat because islands don’t float.

The ONE THING for today: If you don’t like where you are spend a little time each day on boat-building.
