Having a proper definition of love is important. It is not some warm and fuzzy feeling wrapped in hugs and kisses. Sometimes love is stern. Sometimes loves says things that no one wants to hear. Sometimes love calls people out. Sometimes, love walks away.

This became easier for me when I learned that this love can be a verb. Love the noun is the feeling while love the verb is doing for others. I’ve found that doing a loving act for someone I don’t like helps soften my dislike for them. Feelings are unreliable, the heart being deceitful. All of this except ether bible quote is only my opinion.

    .
If a Christian loves others, said Christians has to correct their behavior, a la Leviticus 19:17 and 18. (Verse 18 is the one the Lord quotes in Matthew 22.) When I write “correct their behavior” here I’m thinking about those behaviors that are detrimental like touching a hot stove – detrimental to the toucher – and drinking and drinking – potential detrimentally to the drinker and to many others.

    Same neighborhood in Leviticus directs
    don’t lie,
    don’t steal,
    don’t deceive.

Now tell me, if a Christian lies to, steals from, or deceives others, can that Christian still claim to lover others?

  32. Luzviminda Damance says:

Love your enemy. Jesus washed Judas feet.

  33. Justin Garcia says:

Yes! If your theology does not lead you to be more loving than you have really bad theology.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:7-8, ESV)

  34. David Boekeloo says:

1 John 4: 7-8 Beloved let us love one another. For love is of God and everyone who loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love.

  37. David Holmes says:

    no –> “agape” not possible!

  38. Jason Holmes says:

Correct! According to the Bible it IS impossible. Here are three passages of Scripture to verify this claim:

    1) 1st John 4:7-8 says “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not loveth not God; for God is love.”

    2) 1 John 4:20-21
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.”

    3) In Mark chapter 12 verses 28-31 Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with every fiber and strength of your being and the 2nd is like it; love your neighbor as yourself.

Scripture is pretty clear on this matter. You can’t be a Christian without having love for other people.

  39. Marco Antonio Moreno Gutierrez says:

    God is love

  40. Pv Joseph says:

If being Christian is dependent on the love one shows who is to judge what is love and who is a Christian!

  41. William Clark says:

Couldn’t agree more with that and I’m ashamed to say that as a believer I do not always show love to my fellow man OR my fellow believer. Just being honest.

    Amen to that ?
    Fully in Agreement.
