JESUS; THE GOOD SHEPHERD
“And when He brings out His own sheep, He goes before them; and the sheep follow Him, for they know His voice” (John 10:4).
This is our joy, flock of Christ, that we are led not by a coward shepherd but a good and brave One. Shepherds who are coward go _after_ their sheep so they can escape any coming danger. But Christ, our good Shepherd goes not after but _before_ us. Jesus our good Shepherd understands His sheep, because He has gone before us. He has walked where we walk, experienced what we experience, and felt what we feel. He therefore understands us and is willing to help us.
Jesus our good Shepherd has gone before us. Yes! He has gone before us to destroy the predators ahead, He has gone before us to loose the traps of the enemy, to level mountains of hardship and to fill valleys of sorrow. We are therefore confident and victorious in our journey. Though we encounter battles, we are only battling with already defeated enemies. For our good Shepherd has already broken the horns of the enemies.
Now if our good Shepherd goes _before_ us then we should do well to go _after_ Him. Going after Jesus means following His example; His holiness, love, forgiveness, service to man and service to God. It’s a deadly error for a sheep to try to lead his Shepherd. Therefore Let our actions suit what our Master teaches us and not to change His teachings to suit our actions. Sheep who follow the good Shepherd are safe, well fed, and will never be led astray. Jesus our good Shepherd has gone before us to show us the way, let us follow His steps as obedient sheep and we shall reach where He is. God bless you!
