Living the examined life…

Reflection question:

What areas of my personal life could most benefit from an infusion of my anointed energy?

Recently while washing my hands a huge spider (like bigger than a silver dollar!) dropped out from the overflow opening in the sink and almost fell on my hand.  Talk about an infusion of energy!  (Through I doubt that it was anointed:))

But that little incident highlights a few things that are applicable to today’s reflection question.

First it highlights the fact that: the state of your public life will be no better than the quality of your private character.  A very real temptation that you must be aware of is the tendency to see the most important needs and issues of your life in terms of those  things / people out there.

Think about what you’ve been praying about lately.  Has it been mainly about problems and tasks that you need help with and about people who you care about?

Now there is nothing wrong with that, yet if the truth be known, just like in the sink, there are “spider-issues” hiding in the crevices and cracks of your lives.  If you do not take the time to look inward each day at your personal life and allow the Holy Spirit to take inventory you are setting yourself up for failure.

The most important question that needs an answer each day is not, “What does God want me to do?”  The most important question is, “What does God want to be.”  If you get that right then all the rest will begin to fall in place.

Well that’s enough for today…I’ll pick back up on this theme tomorrow.

Blessings, dlk
