Many say God is IMMORAL because of the Amalekites and the Canaanites and how He responded to them. Question: What SHOULD God have done, since you all know better? ?

He gave them 400 years to get right. Then sent Joshua in there to destroy the culture. Was not genocide as the atheist say.He did away with the culture not all the people. Because a few verses later he says do not intermarry with the canaanites. When he eradicates evil he gets no credit.

That was no different than Noah’s generation and the flood. That generation of the Amaklites had become totally wicked and evil and Gods judgement came upon them. God is love therefore he must destroy evil and wickedness therefore if he wouldnt of killed them he would have been contradicting who he claims to be. You see our problem is we just dont understand or realize just how Holy this God who created us is nor do we understand or know him fully. Isaiah said woe is me when he saw his glory john in revelation fell over like a dead man others will beg for the mountains to fall on them and hide them from the presence of the Lamb. You see all of us and our good works are but filthy rags before God rags being meant to be understood as a woman on her period. The problem is not God and there in lies our problem God is good and we are not our only hope is to run to Jesus

Judging God’s morality is not for us to do. God does not have any “shoulds”. He does what He does. Our opinion means nothing.

With fear and trembling I ponder this question! How dare we even engage in questioning a sovereign, just judge who protected his message from people’s that were enemies of His and threatened to enlarge paganism to new levels. His ways are above our ways and His judgments are just and right! Who can know His mind???

God “should” have killed Adam right after he sinned, but He showed mercy. We don’t deserve anything.

What I think we do is to look at life from the world up, instead of from heaven down. God said through Isaiah, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, and My ways are not your way.”
The Amalekites and Canaanites were Baal worshippers. Just think for a moment what Baal worship looked like, imagine for instance putting babies onto a burning hot metal idol, I can’t imagine anything more inhuman, more evil.
I don’t think our idea of justice and Gods idea of justice can ever be compared, our idea of justice is always measured by our own fallibility.? -
I have studied a little on this myself. Keep in mind the culture and time was very different. Back then, unfortunately, wars among people groups was a way of life… In general, when God exercises this kind of judgment on a people, He allows 400 years to go by to give chances for repentance (remember the Hebrews were in slavery for 400 years). 400 years also passed before God allowed the Israelites to go into captivity in Babylon. Keep in mind also that these people groups had abominable practices, such as child sacrifice….. Another thing to keep in mind is that in many Middle Eastern languages, hyperboles are used often. So the “kill every man, woman, and child” was actually a hyperbole of the time, just like saying we want the New York Giants to annihilate the New England Patriots. There is support of this as there is scripture talking about living with Caananite neighbors…. To my personal understanding, the custom of the Hebrews was not to harm anyone that did not resist them… One other thing that stuck out to me, if I recall right, was that the Hebrews were not allowed to take the spoils, meaning that they were not allowed to profit from this, in order to discourage them from doing this in the future…. Hope this sheds some new light on this.

We all have to understand, God is perfectly Holy and He can do whatever He wants. He is Righteous and perfect.
“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, But to Your name give glory Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth. Why should the nations say, “Where, now, is their God?” But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.”

So instead of trying to search for some reasons of excuses why God should and should not, its best we try find out what we ought and should and should nots since we are the fallibles. -
so it was ok for the cannanitns to burn their children alive, practice all kinds witchcraft, sexual immorality and God was supposed to look the other way.

Also if you understand what the word Amalek means you would know what the Amalekites were and why God did what he did the maybe many wouldn’t say God is immoral. Also if you understand what the word Amalek means vampire like creature I find it hard to believe that they would be called this if they didn’t have the features or characteristics of such a creature do you. They were after all of the corrupted bloodlines of the Nephilim.

From the very beginning, first 2 children of Adam and Eve were the the 2 types of people that God sees.
Able and Cain illustrated the offering that God accepted. Either a blood offering or the works of our hands.
Then in Gen 4:25, God replaces Able with the line of Seth and then the 2 types are seen
1. People who worship or call on the name of the Lord,
Or
2. People who rely on their own abilities to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. These were not the offspring of Seth
Caanan was a picture of the flesh and God promised early on that he would war with caanan continually.

If the God of the Bible was a good God, could see every detail of eternity, could see every action of every one of your descendants, was the inventor of your moral code and had the ability to destroy you but still bring you into eternal life how can you begin to argue whether an action of His was right or wrong on that basis with our little knowledge. The action can neither disprove nor prove that God is good or evil in itself, so it is not worth arguing.

I’m sure that the Lord gave these people time to repent and worship Him, but they did not. The Lord is sovereign over all of creation. Everything belongs to Him. He used the Israelites as a tool of His judgement upon these people’s, just as later he used the Babalonians and as instruments of Judgement against Judah and Jerusalem. God is sovereign and we cannot say to Him what are you doing?

Sin pollutes the physical ground. Have you ever wondered who cried out to God to stop the physical land from being polluted by sin? I think the earth itself cried for relief to God.

He shouldn’t have done anything differently.
Scripture states that God wiped those people out because of their great sin, not because he favoured the Israelites.
As always, God’s works achieve multiple objectives with one move.
I see nothing wrong with wiping a people who burned their children alive as sacrifices from the face of the earth, just as most people don’t have an issue with wiping ISIS from the map either.

where were we when He created the universe that we should ask Him about things only He has the perfect wisdom to know?
One attribute that separates God from us is His holiness. It it in the superlative of superlatives. -
If we understand God in concept and revelation in the bible, youll find the answer, he is the author, creator of life, he is sovereign and can decide who life he can take, also those people were committing such horrible sins and injustices, and God is just so he cannot contradict himself

I’m the OP…
God waited 400 years before He passed judgment on the Canaanites. He DIDN’T have to wait a day.
God passed judgement on the Amalekites, ordered them wiped out and yet, the Amalekites are still around AFTER the event and yet He didn’t destroy anyone for not obliterating them.
Some people are here on this thread talking about how immoral God was in the OT and how they think God is beneath them, you disrespect YOUR Creator and would rather accept the MAGIC and FANTASY of evolution as your “creator” AND YET
You breathe His air!
God has always shown mercy!
Why?
Because He loves us!
How ANYBODY could, essentially, look into the Face of God who loves you and me enough to, instead of wiping us out, sacrifice His own Son (Himself), and still think that He’s somehow evil? That shows more about the evil in you.
Because in reality, God COULD RIGHTFULLY DESTROY ALL OF US, START OVER AGAIN AND THERE WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NO RECORD OF ANY OF US HAVING EXISTED.
Considering what God COULD do, COULD HAVE DONE… I’d say we ought to be grateful to Him.
I realize this will fall on deaf ears for some, but that’s your problem, NOT GOD’S…

Many people would say God is immoral, because he allowed people that consider themselves “Christian” to take land from indigenous people group’s. Example in the US various groups of Native Americans. Central and South America,(AZTECS. Incas, and Mayas). In Australia, Aborigines people groups. New Zealand the Maori. Even in South Africa in what would lead to the apartheid for several centuries!

I don’t think God was immoral at all. I think it was a dark decision that had to be done directly because God is purity and righteous and can never exist in the presence of sin by virtue of His purity. That doesn’t mean the decisions He makes are easy or that He takes them lightly, but they are swift and decisive.

It funny how they blamed God for all the evil in the world, how he is quite and all, but when we see Him judging the evil and served what they deserved, They put the blame on God for being immoral.
