May 31: 26 Iyar
It was on this day in 1967, June 5th on the Gregorian calendar, that war broke out between Israel and several of her Arab neighbors in what is known as “The Six Day War.” On the very same day, Israel captured a very important Egyptian military base in the Sinai Peninsula and, within a week, defeated all of her enemies and regained control of the city of Jerusalem.
Now over fifty years later, those same Muslim nations continue staging protests against so-called Israeli occupation. Along with them, governments all over the world are maneuvering to isolate and coerce Israel into giving up lands obtained in the Six Day War. As far as I’m concerned, the Bible is clear on this subject – the land being contested is God’s land. In fact, the whole earth is God’s.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.” (Psalm 24:1-2)
Furthermore, Scripture declares that, not only is He the Creator of the earth, but He’s also the One who determined where the different nations would dwell, fixing their borders Himself. So, if any nation or group of nations are determined to divide His land and tamper with the borders that He has assigned, they should be warned: that which they determine to do to Israel might end up being done to them.
Whether its the U.S. or western powers at large, any one complicit in this drive to cause Israel to fix her borders in a way that the word is satisfied with is flirting with disaster. Where the US is concerned, any effort to pressure our only true ally in the Middle East to retreat to an untenable and indefensible position, might end up threatening our own security. Might it be that the pressure some US administrations have placed on Israel is exactly why our borders are being penetrated, today? To be clear, we’re not talking about those immigrants who come here seeking a better life. We’re referring to those who come here seeking to destroy our way of life.
God told Abraham:
“I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)
Let us pray that our current leaders, Democrat and Republican, for the sake of our own safety, will have the wisdom to lead us in the fear of God and in reverence to His Word. May our leaders always support God’s purposes that we might be a blessed nation. But let us also, as individuals, have a heart for His purposes and bless those that He has blessed.
