Mimosas Blooming in June

A few days ago I was in South Carolina visiting my parents. I observed that the mimosas were blooming and it took me back to my boyhood days and summer camp.

I attended summer camp for many years at a campground in Mauldin, SC. Back in those days there were beautiful mimosa trees dotted throughout the campground.

Seeing the blooming mimosas a few days ago stirred the poet’s pen in me. I’ll let you decide if it was inspired, but at least I hope it brings back some special childhood memories that you may have forgotten, being all grown-up and all.

Mimosas Blooming in June

Its June and the mimosas are blooming.
Set me free!
This is the time of the year to be a boy again.

Youth Camp,
New friends and old,
Happy go lucky.

Life can’t be all adulthood and responsibility.
Sometimes you have to let others be in charge,
While you relive those summer days of yore.

Why not?
Mimosas only bloom in June.
Come July, you can pick back up being an adult again.
