Author

“Innovators understand that their job is to fail, repeatedly, until they don’t.”

―Seth Godin

It is said that there are two kinds of authors.  First, there are those authors who enjoyed having written and then there are those authors who enjoy writing.

There’s a world of difference.

I remember a pastor that I greatly admired.  Matter of fact, he was a mentor in my life who had a great impact on me.  Yet, (and sadly), one of the greatest lessons I learned from him came from his example later in life.

For the last decade or so of his life, every time I heard him speak and every time I spoke with him one-on-one, predictably he would tell the same old “war stories” about his glory days as a pastor.

He was like the authors who enjoyed having written but no longer wrote.  He had nothing new to bring to the table, no new stories, no new victories, no new wisdom to offer.

As much as I love and honor my mentor, I don’t want to be finish like that.

Its one thing to have given your best.

Its another thing to be bringing your best now.

But better yet, it is truly exceptional to not be satisfied with giving your best, but instead, be striving to reach the place where you are giving the very best possible.

The ONE THING for today: Must you repeat yourself? No! Keep growing, keep learning, keep failing (until you don’t), and keep bringing something new to the table. You still have a lot of living to do.

I push myself forward toward the goal to win the prize. God has appointed me to win it. The heavenly prize is Christ Jesus himself.
