No Answers, Know God

“Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.” – Isaiah 46:9-10

I tossed and turned in bed for almost two hours tonight and could not, for some reason, go to sleep. I tried and failed…yet, I felt God leading me in a different direction tonight as I was praying. For me, I feel like I have more questions than answers in life. It might just be me, but I am the type of person that is always thinking about something…always trying to biblically and logically think things through, though I fail 99% of the time. What about you – do you have more questions than answers? Are you confused? Are you worried and asking questions and you never can seem to get an answer? Well, you’re not alone!

It seems like in today’s society that questions outweigh the answers…in our eyes. Why are things happening like they are today? Why is the government supposedly “shutting down”? Why can we not support our families the way we want to? Why does divorce happen every day? Why is there murder? Why can’t the government just eliminate its debt and start over? Why does man have to struggle with sin all their life? What are God’s plans for me and my family in this situation? I can go on and on.

This past month, the Lord has really blessed my family and I. I was hired by the Tuscaloosa County School System as a full-time bus driver. I will be able to help out with the baby more and support my family in a better way. I thank the good Lord above for that, but another reason I got this job is to simply get another foot in the door for the Lord in the school systems. But, the question that I have been asking myself this past week was, “why me?” Why did I, out of 9 people get one of the two full-time positions? I am not being negative towards it, because I am, by all means, VERY thankful, but also in a way, I wonder why God chose me. Maybe God has different plans for the ones that didn’t get it, or maybe God has a plan for me that I cannot see yet.

See, life is all about questions, but the thing that I have learned in my short 24 years of living is that I don’t know anything. I had a lady look at me the other day and say, “Oh, you’re young, so that means you think you know everything.” Honestly, I don’t think that. I have no answers for anything I do. I cannot tell you the exact reason why things happen the way they do. I cannot define sadness and depression to a T.

I don’t have all the answers, but I do know a God….THE God….who has every answer to every problem that we face. Think about this: there is a God who created the Heavens and the Earth and desires a relationship with you, despite your past or present troubles. This is the same God who gave breathe to man and man breathed clean air. This is the same God that gave life to Jesus after three days of DEATH. This is the same God that made humanity in His own image and found them worthy of His presence. This is the same God who told Elijah to call upon His name to prove that false idols were NOTHING. This is the same God that cured my heart of anger and depression. This is the same God that interceded for me during my darkest hours of life. This is the same God gave grace to me from a cross 2000 years ago!

You see, man doesn’t have all the answers, but God does. Man can’t write a book of how to get through your situations. Only God can. You can’t pay man to talk to you and help you. Whoever you are, whoever is reading this, you have forgiveness now. You have answers that await you. It’s just that you and I search for the answers in all the wrong places. You say, “Well, Stewart…you’re in ministry! You’re supposed to know everything!” No, if that were the case then I would NOT be in ministry. I don’t know everything. I don’t know how to tell this generation what to do, only God can through me!

I am reminded of Job. God allowed Satan to take away everything Job owned…his family, bank account, livestock, home, clothes, food, everything. Finally, Job has enough of it and has three of his friends try to help encourage him during his hard times, but the thing that I see the most about Job is that he has an excuse and answer for everything that his friends tell him. His friends tell him to pray to God and Job says, “it’s harder than you think it is!” His friends tell him to search his heart for hidden sin and Job says, “I might as well be dead!” His friends tell him to stop complaining and Job says, “You try going through what I go through on a daily basis!” Reader, I wish I had the answer to every problem, write a book, and give it away to every person in this world, but I don’t because there was a Book that started in history 2000+ years ago with answers to every problem we will go through, and we neglect it so much today. God sent His only Son to die on the cross so that we don’t have to suffer through life not knowing what will happen next. God’s Word has all the answers we need. All we need to do it open it up and search the heart of God for our lives!

I have no answers, but I know God and that’s enough for me! He is the One who guides me through my life in every situation with my family, in ministry, and in life! He promises that He will walk beside you if you acknowledge Him in your life. He promises abundant life. He promises that He will be closer to you than a brother. These are all promises in His Word! The God who gave breath to you desires a walking and talking relationship with you. Now go walk in it!
