Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for April 5, 2026.
Today’s headlines are dominated by the ongoing situation with Iran, as President Trump has threatened strikes on Iranian infrastructure, a move met by reciprocal actions from Iran against Gulf Arab nations. This conflict is placing unprecedented strain on U.S. alliances, with analysts highlighting a unique level of decline this time around. Domestically, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s recent shake-up of Army leadership, including Gen. Randy George, has sparked questions about military politicization during wartime. In Virginia, a proposed redistricting referendum holds the potential for Democrats to counter Republican gains made elsewhere. And President Trump continues to make his mark on history, erecting new structures and branding everything with his name, a style critics liken to a strongman’s, while others simply see it as legacy-building. Internationally, China, a leader in renewables, appears well-positioned to benefit from a global fuel crisis, while in Venezuela, three months after Maduro’s capture, significant change remains elusive. Concerns are also growing globally that the Iran war could usher in an “age of impunity” regarding international law and civilian protections.
Looking ahead to our video lineup, you won’t want to miss “Sunday Services!”, a special Easter message titled “He knew and He came anyway” Easter 2026, and our regular “Sunday Service” at citylife church, broadcast live Sundays at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM EST.
In FaithNews, we remember Robert White, Former General Overseer, who has passed away. Also, a Church Planting Intensive is currently in session, while the ‘Jesus Wells’ Campaign is making strides, focusing on the ‘World’s Thirstiest Communities’. Finally, we celebrate a ministry that recently won ‘Best Children’s Feature’ at the Movieguide® Awards.
Turning to our prophecy news, a Democrat congressional candidate has drawn criticism for lambasting evangelicals, attributing the ‘White Patriarchy’ to them. On the geopolitical front, the Kremlin has downplayed President Trump’s threat to withdraw from NATO, with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev indicating a preference for an American-led NATO over a new European military alliance. In a fascinating scientific breakthrough, researchers have made the first confirmed observation of atoms existing in two separate places at the same time. And closer to home, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake off eastern Indonesia has triggered a tsunami warning for the region.
Finally, in Jewish history, looking back to April 6th, 1199, we note the passing of King Richard I of England. While Richard had offered some protection to his Jewish subjects, they also bore a disproportionate burden in raising his ransom. His death, however, ushered in the reign of King John, who openly exploited the Jewish community, a tyranny that ultimately contributed to the drafting of the Magna Carta, which included specific provisions regarding the treatment of Jews.
