Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for June 14, 2026.

In today’s top stories, the U.S. is grappling with both celebrations and challenges. New York City found unity and grit in the Knicks’ NBA Finals victory, a stark contrast to the national mood as America prepares for its 250th anniversary. President Trump celebrated his birthday with a UFC cage-fighting event, one of several anniversary events that haven’t generated widespread excitement, leading many to see the semiquincentennial as a missed opportunity amidst a divided nation. Domestically, discussions around presidential power are evolving, shaped by a 1980s legal theory, while a standoff between Congress and President Trump has allowed a key part of a spy law to lapse, raising concerns for counterterrorism efforts at a time of heightened security risks. On the world stage, a major breakthrough has been announced: President Trump confirmed a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran to end the war and immediately open the Strait of Hormuz. This agreement, which Pakistan played a significant mediating role in—though at a reported high cost—is expected to be a key topic as President Trump meets with global leaders at the upcoming G7 summit to discuss demining the crucial waterway.

In prophecy news, the Department of Labor highlighted a “Blue-Collar Boom” for factory workers, with average weekly paychecks up 7.4 percent from a year ago—the best gains in generations. Meanwhile, the Department of War released the third tranche of records under its Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE. Internationally, reports emerged from Belfast, Ireland, of riots and attempted beheadings, with protesters reportedly evicting foreign immigrants, following a horrific incident involving a Sudanese Muslim. And politically, a recent report highlighted a controversial “Gallery of Rogues” among Democrats, drawing attention to individuals with links to various extremist elements.

Finally in Jewish history, looking back at June 15th, 1215, King John of England put his seal to the Magna Carta, which included a specific reference to Jews, outlining that debt interest would not accrue if the heir was underage, and if the debt fell into the king’s hands, only the principal sum would be taken. This clause underscores how both the King and Barons viewed Jews primarily as a source of revenue. The same date in 1226 saw the martyrdom of twelve Jews in Cologne, and later in 1363, the coronation of Wenceslaus IV, who, as Emperor, failed to continue certain policies.
