Welcome to our new home on Reddit!

Reddit has several advantages over our old phpBB system, and I think each of you will find it more enjoyable to use than the old board once you get used to it. The change can be a bit jarring, however, so please find below some tips to make Reddit feel a lot more like our “old home.”

1. Make It More Like the Old Acts-celerate

First, know that Reddit was started with an interface that more closely resembled Actscelerate.com’s old interface. A few years ago, Reddit “updated” the interface to make it feel more like a modern social media site. However, in my opinion, it makes the site way more clunky. There are two main ways to enjoy the cleaner format that is closer to what you are used to.

1.1 Use this Domain

The first way is to always use http://old.reddit.com instead of reddit.com. This will automatically bring you to the old style of interface. It is also where the link from actscelerate.com automatically directs you.

1.2 Set this Preference

The second way is to tell Reddit that you do not want to use the old interface in your preferences.

1. Make sure you are logged in to your account.
2. Visit https://old.reddit.com/prefs/
3. Then scroll to the bottom where you will see beta options.
4. Uncheck the box next to “Use new Reddit as my default experience“
5. Click “Save Options“

2. Remember to “Join” Our Community

Second, be aware that r/Actscelerate is only one of many communities (called “subreddits”) on reddit.com. When you sign up for a new account, you will be offered the chance to join new communities based on your interests. When you come to /r/Actscelerate, you will see a “Join” button either on the right-hand side (old Reddit) or at the top of the page (new Reddit). Be sure to “Join” our community! You can see a list of the communities you belong to (and “leave” the ones you don’t want to belong to) at https://old.reddit.com/subreddits/mine/.

3. Something New to Make It Better

Third, Reddit uses a voting system.

Next to each post and comment you’ll notice arrow icons. These icons allow you to “upvote” or “downvote” content. Upvotes show that redditors think content is positively contributing to a community or the site as a whole. Downvotes mean redditors think that content should never see the light of day. If you like something, be it a post or a comment, and you think it contributes to a conversation, upvote it! On Reddit, that’s just considered good manners.

Importantly, upvoting and downvoting do not mean “agree” or “disagree.” It is a vote for whether or not everyone should read that thread or comment.
