I watch as she quietly re-shelves the out of place
books in the children’s section of the Library.
Who knew three kids could do this much damage?
Some wouldn’t appreciate the beauty of this moment.
Some would question why an educated woman
would choose a career path that
features decreased funding,
a low salary,
and less and less honor from the outside world.
But they don’t see her like I do.
I see her through the eyes of
my five year old daughter.
My daughter, who wants to read ten books
a night because she’s so enthralled
by the stories found between the covers.
My daughter, who sits on the floor
of my office, coloring pictures,
and writing stories underneath.
I see her when I think of the deep love
for literature growing within my daughter –
starting at home, yes, but growing stronger
because of this woman who decided
the sacrifice really was worth it.
