Paul was not even close to being the first person saved in the body of Christ. On Pentecost, Peter preached the first official sermon in the Church, and 3,000 were saved. The scripture then notes that people were being saved every day. That was several years before Paul was converted. Paul wasn’t converted until after Stephan’s death.

The first were the Apostles at Pentecost

    1 Timothy 1:15-16 KJV
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. [16] Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Paul laid the foundation of the church the body of Christ.

    1 Corinthians 3:10-11 KJV
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. [11] For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

He is the first being called to preach the Gospel to Gentiles not first person to be saved…

The apostles at Pentecost were Jewish apostles who ministered to Israel and not the church the body of Christ.

Read the scriptures I have given.

Seems that’s someone reading into Scripture something that’s not there.

  8. Shane Johnson says:

Lol so none is saved before Paul …even our father Abraham ? Craziness ..

  9. Robert David Van Meter says:

    This is bad hermeneutics.

Have you not read Hebrews 11 ???

    Hebrews 11:39-40 KJV
And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: [40] God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Abraham received a promise and he still waiting for it

  11. Aaron B Lister says:

Paul wasn’t saying he was the first in the Church. The Church/Assembly/Ekklesia has been around since at least the time of Moses in the wilderness.
    Acts 7:38

Paul was saying that he was a terrible sinner
1 Tim.1:12-15. And despite that God saved him. So that we can see how bad Paul (even a murderer of innocents loved by God) was saved.

In fact he’s the FIRST/FOREMOST that comes to my mind in the Biblical canon, of Gods ability and desire to save the worst of the sinners.

  12. David Weinstein says:

No , there was mathew mark , luke and john and the people who saw Jesus after his ressurection! 500

  13. Shane Johnson says:

There is only one sacrifice that saved and that is the once and for all sacrifice of Christ … The blood of the OT sacrifices only covered sin and pointed to Christ’s sacrifice . OT testament saints were saved in the same way NT saints are … By the atoning blood of Jesus Christ … God incarnste … The 2nd Person of the Holy trinity … Any other view is outright heretical

  14. Bruce Venable says:

IMO Joshua Ofori is a troll.

  15. Stephen Riggs says:

Paul is not saying he was the first convert in the church. He is saying that God used him as a prime example of his great patience for even the worst of sinners. As if God were saying, “Look at Paul! If my love and mercy can change this man’s heart, then it can change yours too! Its a verse of amazing hope.

  16. Celeste Marie says:

As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. 4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
5 And he said, “Who are You, Lord?”

Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”

If Paul was simply arresting the believing remnant of Israel, why does Jesus claim that Paul was persecuting HIM?

  17. Herb Van Schoick says:

The first two people to be saved in the bible were adam and eve, when god covered them with the skins of sacrificed animals

  18. Mark August says:

    Thats ridiculous

  19. Mark August says:

Paul was still a non believer during pentecost when 3000 were added to the church.

  20. Olivaire Watler says:

This is a good example of why:

    1. One should not study scripture from
    the KJV.

    2. One should not take a verse out of context and make a teaching on it.

Here is what vv. 15-16 says in the ESV:

15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life”

  21. Luap Iyasi says:

Joshua Ofori not really the first person but the First Jew. The 12 were Hebrews but were not Religious leaders. Paul is indeed our pattern.

  22. Mark Fonner says:
  23. André Catharino says:

Who’s to say that Paul was really an apostle? What if he was set out by Rome to fulfill their purposes? Clearly his teaching diverge from the gospels..

  24. Chad Wilkerson says:

Sidenote: man, I can’t stand reading from the KJV for anything other than novelty. Ew!

  25. Andrew Beltz says:

    Joshua
Are you familiar with the term “eisegesis”?

  26. Arthur Adam Haglund says:

“Paul is the first person to be saved in the church the body of Christ.
    He is our pattern”
WOW, not even anything that Paul claimed of himself.
He was the APOSTLE to the non-Jewish nations, non-Jewish people and as an Apostle, he said, be followers of me, as I am of Christ.
This and your OP’s citation, are not claims of being the first believer. how ridiculous.

  27. Celeste Marie says:

The Bible says that the Church is the BODY OF CHRIST which consists of every man and woman that is indwelled by the Holy Spirit of God, which came at Pentecost. If not, what DID happen at Pentecost?

Commenting on this topic is now closing as it has run its course, and all relevant points have been made on both sides.

Those reading along can decide for themselves which side proved their points from the scriptures they posted.
