no one thinks this is pathetic for COG ministers? church promotion??

  2. It is called ministering to the community.

  3. Charles Page says:

then it should be a community civic center

  4. Who is the church supposed to minister to?

  5. Charles Page says:

    the scattered sheep!!

  6. Jesus said he came to seek and save those who are lost and told us to go and do likewise…

  7. Charles Page says:

that what the church should be doing.

  8. So, can’t we do that through outreaches such as this?

  9. Again, you are talking about something you know absolutely nothing about.

  10. I cannot wait until I reach Charles Page’s level of sanctification. I had no idea that being more like Christ meant I would wake up daily, disparage my old denomination due to unrepentant bitterness, stir up trouble for giggles, misappropriate and misuse images that are not my own, hide behind the false transparency of an “open forum,” post videos of myself drinking coffee while spitting out folk theology disguised as holy doctrine, go to war with Carolyn Dirksen (a war she is not actively fighting mind you), question the holiness of people based solely on their appearance, trash college students at my alma mater, put on a facade of meekness, and grow an impressive, well maintained beard. It’s going to be a great life of fulfillment and heaven bound holiness. I bet I’ll have lots of friends. Don’t worry saints! He’s still working on me. I’ll get there one day…

I’m not against the church doing fun events together for fellowship. Just to do life together outside of the setting of worship service I think is healthy for the congregation. But I don’t think that trunk or treating or such events are something the church should be focused on. Not to be legalistic. I just think that energy can be utilized in better ways like providing for the poor in the community. I’m not really a big supporter of trying to attract people to the church through prizes and big events though. The church should always show hospitality to those outside of it but I don’t think hospitality should come in the form of big events. I think this commodifies the gospel into a product we’re trying to coerce people into buying. It conflates the church and capitalism. It wasn’t clear to me if that was the point of this event so I cannot say much on this specific situation unless I know more.
